"It's been a while, Grey."
Grey smirked, his eyes moving up and down Seris' frame, analyzing every curve of her body through her scythe robes. "Yes, it has."
"Mind those eyes of yours," Seris stated, tilting her head to the side. "They have a tendency to wander."
Grey met her gaze, "Is that such a bad thing?"
Seris tapped the rim of her teacup with her painted nail before looking at the couch across from her. "Sit down. We need to chat."
Grey stiffened a chuckle as he began to walk around the couch. "Wow, I haven't seen you in a few months, and not even a 'how're you?'." Grey sat down, placing his hand over his heart, looking offended. "I'm hurt."
Seris took a sip of her tea. "No, you're not."
Grey chuckled and shrugged, "You're right, I'm not." He canted his head and grinned, "You look good, though."
"I know," Seris stated, placing her teacup on the table. She picked up the silver tea vessel and poured herself a new cup.
"Not in the mood for a simple chat, I see," Grey pointed out.
Seris finished pouring her cup before looking at Grey. She placed down the vessel, picked up her teacup, and leaned back against the couch. "You've been busy as of late, Grey."
Grey placed his right ankle over his left knee and relaxed against the back of the couch. "Yes, I've been accompanying Sevren on many recent dives. He even found this cool little item."
Seris kept her facial features blank, tapping the rim of her cup with her nail, as she stared at Grey.
Grey smiled, tilting his head slightly, "Unless that's not what you mean."
"You know it's not," Seris stated matter-of-factly.
Grey looked Seris up and down, before meeting her gaze, "How much do you know?"
Seris narrowed her eyes on Grey, "I'm a Scythe, Grey. Thinking that there is something that I don't know is insulting."
Grey leaned forward, looking at Seris challengingly, "Oh yeah? What did Sevren find in this last dive?"
"A bone-like dagger," Seris stated without hesitation.
Grey's brows raised, looking honestly surprised. "Playfulness aside, how did you know that?"
Seris smirked, "Wouldn't you like to know?" She took another sip of her tea before looking at Grey seriously, "But yes, Grey. I know you have been accepted as a retainer candidate." Her eyes narrowed. "Why didn't you inform me that you would be applying?"
Grey hummed, "Why?" He leaned back against the couch. "Would you have tried to talk me out of it? Are you worried about me?"
Seris' eye twitched, "I would hate to lose a good Ascender to the war. There is still a lot to the Relictombs that we don't know."
Grey raised his chin, staring at Seris, seeing her blank expression. "Is that all?" He sighed and scratched the back of his head, "I see. Well, I'm sure Sevren will do fine without his lead striker." He looked at Seris intently, "Besides, it will be an honor to fight in this war."
Seris' fingers tightened along her teacup, "An honor."
Grey's eyes narrowed, sensing a hidden meaning behind Seris' words.
"Yes," Seris continued. "I suppose it would be." She placed the rim of the teacup against her soft, luscious-looking lips before tilting it back and consuming the rest of the liquid. She placed the empty cup on the table before leaning back against the couch and clasping her hands in her lap. "Well, the Victoriad won't be for a while. Have you been informed what you will be doing in the meantime?"
