Tessia Eralith POV
Holding my hands out in front of me, I could feel my eyes practically gleaming as I stared at the magic before me. Balls of water, earth, air, and even fire were rotating in a circular pattern above my hands. The sensation I felt as I controlled these elements was electrifying, to put it mildly. I could feel the elemental mana flowing around me and through me, like it called to me. Well, in a way, it does.
I never knew why or what made me special. But ever since I can remember, I could control the mana around me like it was second nature. It was almost as easy as breathing. It was a feeling that was both amazing and terrifying. I love controlling the mana around me, but sometimes, it can just be overwhelming. Sometimes, it can become out of control.
Tilting my head to the right, I eyed the ball of water and willed it to freeze. My lips curled, watching the water turn to ice. Looking at the ball of fire, my eyes lingered.
The fire magic was definitely the hardest element to control, for me, most likely because I'm an elf, and everyone knows elves can't use fire magic. It's why I have only ever used my fire magic in front of my family.
My eyes fell. 'My family.'
I know my family loves me with all their hearts and will do everything in their power to protect me. But that was also the problem. They tried to protect me so much that they would always keep me secluded at the castle. They didn't want me to slip up and accidentally reveal my abilities to everyone. It's also why they have hired magic trainers for me over the years to help me control my powers more effectively. In the end, the trainers did help. But that didn't mean I didn't have the occasional slip-up. Like when I accidentally froze a guy's lips together.
I smirked at the memory. It was his fault, after all. I had blatantly told him I wasn't interested in his advances. But no, his annoying ass kept trying to pursue me. Luckily, he didn't talk to me much after that.
"Kyu."
My eyes shifted to my right leg as I sat cross-legged on the soft green grass. My lips curled as my gaze fell on the little white fox curled beside me, who was sound asleep.
'Sylvie. She is so cute.'
I dismissed my magic and gently stroked my fingers over her soft fur, and felt her stir slightly. My heart warmed at the sight. She was definitely someone I loved very much, like a daughter. My smile disappeared.
'Daughter...'
Images of Sylvie's mother surfaced, reminding me of my final moments with her. A menacing figure with gray skin and cruel crimson eyes flashed through my mind. I quickly closed my eyes tightly, pushing those unkind memories away.
'Breathe. Just breathe.'
I could feel myself begin to relax as I heard the sound of the waterfall. Opening my eyes, I looked around at the training room I was in. Though calling it a training room wouldn't do it justice.
It was a private room that Grandma had provided me, so that I could relax and concentrate on my magic training. It was a beautiful room with lush green grass, a small pond where a waterfall flowed into it, and beautiful trees. Being in this room always gave me a sense of calmness where I could always think clearly.
'Mama?'
My eyes snapped to Sylvie, hearing her voice in my head, seeing that she was awake, and looking at me with tired eyes.
I smiled warmly and thought, "Hey, Sylv? Have a good nap?"
It always amazed me how Sylvie and I could speak telepathically through our bond. I often wondered what others would think when they caught me laughing to myself at something Sylvie said.
Sylvie yawned, 'I guess.' She rolled onto her back and stretched her tiny paws into the air, and I practically melted at the cuteness. 'I could sleep for another hour, though. Why did we wake up so early again?'
I shrugged, 'Sorry. I just couldn't sleep.'
'Nervous about today?'
'I guess.' I looked up, my eyes scanning the scenery around me. 'I haven't exactly spent a lot of time around people my age. What if they think I'm weird?'
Sylvie looked at me and smirked, 'Just tell them to get over it and say you're the elven princess.'
I looked at Sylvie and narrowed my eyes jestfully, 'Oh, yeah. I'm sure that would go over well.'
'Or, you could just captivate them with your beauty.'
I rolled my eyes hard, 'Outstanding advice, Sylv. So it's either use my title or looks to make friends.'
Sylvie raised a paw, and I swear she would be giving me a thumbs up if she could. 'Sounds like a foolproof plan to me!'
'More like a plan doomed to fail.' I looked up and sighed. 'But seriously. I'm sixteen and I'm nervous about meeting a few people. Doesn't that sound pathetic?"
Sylvie cocked her head slightly, before she rolled over and jumped to her feet. She took a deep stretch before she looked my way. 'I wouldn't worry about it, Mama. I'm sure you will make friends easily.'
I smiled at her, 'I hope so.'
"Tessia?"
My head snapped to the side, and my lips curled seeing the figure standing in the doorway. She is a tall, elderly woman with gray hair and brown eyes. Her soft facial feature gives her the image of a gentle grandmother, and she has the personality to match. She was adorned in a conjurer's hat and an elegant robe with gold threadings.
I smiled at the woman, Cynthia, who, although not biologically my grandmother, I considered a grandmother nonetheless.
"Good morning, Grandma."
Sylvie jumped onto my shoulder as I got to my feet. I walked over to Cynthia, as she smiled warmly at me.
"I got concerned when I went to your room and you didn't answer," Cynthia said, tilting her head slightly to the right.
I shrugged, "I couldn't sleep. So, I came here to practice my magic."
Cynthia was one of the few outside my family who knew about my abilities. I felt confident and safe discussing my powers with her.
Cynthia nodded, "Nervous about today?"
'Very,' Sylvie snickered.
"A little," I said, ignoring Sylvie.
Cynthia chuckled, "You have nothing to worry about. Just be yourself."
'Maybe that's the problem,' Sylvie chortled.
I mentally glared at Sylvie and took a deep breath. "I will." I looked at her curiously. "When is the meeting?"
Cynthia took out her pocket watch from her dimensional ring, "In about an hour, so you'd best be getting ready. I sent instructions to the other members to be in their uniforms today. So, you should do the same."
I nodded, "Alright. Then I'll head to my room and get ready."
Cynthia smiled, "Sounds good. Just meet in the student council office once you're done."
I nodded, following Cynthia out of the room, "I will."
