The next morning, Virat woke up early. Careful not to disturb Rohit, who was still curled up against him, he quietly slipped out of bed.
After freshening up, he moved to the kitchen and began preparing breakfast—simple, light, but made with care.
Toast, scrambled eggs, some cut fruit, and a pot of tea waiting to be brewed later.
Once everything was arranged neatly on the counter, he scribbled out a few sticky notes, placing them where they'd be easily seen.
"Breakfast is ready, I'm in the study for the next 3 hours—important meeting. Don't let Aman overdo it."
He added a little smiley face at the end without thinking, a habit when it came to Rohit and Aman.
With one last glance around the apartment to make sure everything was in order, he headed to his study, shutting the door quietly behind him.
About half an hour later, Rohit stirred awake. His hand instinctively reached for Virat's side of the bed, finding it empty.
Still groggy, he sat up and ran a hand through his messy hair, blinking at the morning light that slipped through the curtains.
Slipping out of bed, he padded toward the kitchen, where he immediately spotted the notes Virat had left.
A small smile tugged at his lips as he read them.
"This man," Rohit thought fondly.
He set the note back in place and went to freshen up.
By the time he stepped out of his room, towel drying his hair, Jassi was just coming out of the other room.
"Good morning," Rohit greeted him softly.
"Morning, bhai," Jassi replied with a sleepy but warm smile. He yawned as he made his way toward the kitchen.
Rohit glanced toward the room. "Aman?"
Jassi shook his head, grabbing a glass of water.
"He needs some extra sleep today. His meds are hitting a little heavy," Jassi explained, concern lacing his voice. "Doctor said it might happen."
Rohit nodded, understanding, "Let him rest. We'll check on him in a bit."
Jassi smiled faintly. "Yeah."
Rohit pulled out plates for breakfast, pouring tea into cups just as Virat had set up.
Jassi sat down at the table, quietly eating his breakfast.
He kept glancing at Rohit every now and then, as if he was working up the courage to say something.
Rohit noticed, but he gave him space, letting the silence settle comfortably between them. Sometimes Jassi needed that.
After a few minutes, Jassi finally put his fork down and looked at Rohit properly.
His voice was quiet but steady, "Bhai..." he started.
Rohit glanced up, giving him his full attention. "Hmm?"
Jassi took a slow breath, his fingers fidgeting with the edge of the plate, "I really missed you," he admitted, his voice soft but honest. "When you left the orphanage... it felt like... like you forgot me."
Rohit's heart clenched at the words, but he stayed quiet, letting Jassi speak.
"I was angry," Jassi went on.
"And when you came back for me... I was still so mad, I didn't think straight. I thought... if I pushed you away, it would hurt less."
