Rohit and Aman were in the car heading to the office. Rohit noticed Aman not speaking to him at all—not even a single word—totally opposite to how he was at Virat's house.
"Aman? Why aren't you talking to me?" Rohit asked after ten minutes of silence. Aman just turned his face to look out of the window, leaving Rohit confused.
Rohit frowned at his behavior. "Aman, will you please tell me what's wrong? Why are you ignoring me?" he asked again when they reached Virat's cabin. But the entire ride, Aman remained silent.
"Why don't you ask yourself?" Aman replied coldly without looking at him. He picked up some files and a book from Virat's cabin and left abruptly.
Rohit was bewildered. He worked on the files for half an hour when his phone rang.
"Virat Sir," he greeted.
"Rohit, I've emailed some documents. Can you check those urgently?" Virat asked.
"Yes, Sir. I'm on it," Rohit replied immediately.
"What's wrong?" Virat asked, noticing the change in Rohit's tone. "Rohit? Are you okay? Is Aman— Is Aman okay?" Virat's voice carried concern.
Rohit snapped out of his thoughts, hearing the urgency in Virat's voice. "Calm down, we're fine," he reassured.
He heard Virat sigh in relief. "So, what's wrong then? Why do you sound so low?"
"Aman's not talking to me. The entire ride here, he didn't say a word," Rohit complained.
Virat chuckled, finding Rohit's complaint amusing. "Don't laugh!" Rohit whined.
"Stop whining like him and listen to me. Aman considers you his friend. One thing he hates is silent treatment. If you're angry, yell at him—he won't mind. But this silence? He hates it. You took out your frustration about me on him and his friendship. It hurt him, Rohit. You'll have to make it up to him," Virat explained patiently.
"Now that I've made your job easier, get to work, Rohit—I need those documents in an hour," Virat said in his authoritative tone before ending the call.
Rohit sighed, realizing how he had hurt his only friend. But first, he needed to finish the work Virat had assigned.
When lunchtime came, Rohit decided to treat Aman and searched for him in the office. But Aman wasn't there.
He tried calling him, but there was no response. Panic set in as he asked everyone in the office, but no one had seen or heard from Aman.
Worried, he called Virat, but his phone also went unanswered.
With no other option, Rohit rushed to Virat's house. Anxiety gripped him as he paced through the corridor until Virat opened the door.
"Where's your phone? I can't find Aman! I don't know where he is—I—" Rohit rambled in panic, stopping only when Virat placed his hands on his shoulders.
"Calm down. He's fine. He came home to get some files, but his blood pressure dropped, and he fainted. He's resting in the room," Virat explained.
Rohit immediately went to the room and saw Aman awake. Aman gave him a soft smile, assuring him that he was okay.
"Where are your phones?" Rohit asked both of them.
"Kitchen counter," Virat replied.
"Just once—only once—you couldn't inform me? Do you have any idea how worried I was? I asked everyone in the office! Virat Sir, you told me to keep an eye on him, and when I couldn't find him, I—" Rohit snapped in frustration before storming out.
"Where are you going?" Virat asked tensed as Rohit reached the door.
"Office. I have work pending for my boss," Rohit replied before leaving.
Virat picked up their phones and went to Aman's room. Aman looked upset.
"He had every right to be angry. Don't overthink it, kiddo," Virat said softly.
"More than angry, he looked disappointed and hurt, bhai," Aman said sadly.
"I know, bacha. It's our fault. We'll make it up to him. Why don't you rest for a while? We'll talk to him over dinner, okay?" Virat said, gently caressing Aman's hair.
"It's nice to have someone who worries about both of us, isn't it?", Aman said softly.
"Yes, it is," Virat replied, feeling the love in Rohit's anger and concern.
Virat sat beside Aman, patting his head until he fell asleep. However, his thoughts drifted to Rohit.
If Rohit truly felt something for him, would he be able to handle everything—Aman, the emotions, and all the challenges?
Meanwhile, Rohit returned to the office and locked himself in Virat's cabin.
He sat on the couch, trembling slightly, trying to calm himself.
The worry and anger had overwhelmed him.
"Do I even mean something to them, or am I just an employee? They couldn't even inform me," he mumbled through his tears. "I've lost so many people in my life. They can't leave me—not them. Why is it always me?"
Exhausted, Rohit composed himself after a while and focused on his work.
By 11 PM, Rohit still hadn't returned home. Virat, worried, called him.
"Ro?" Virat said gently when Rohit answered the call.
The way Virat said his name always felt warm and comforting.
"Please come back home," Virat said, his voice filled with concern.
Hearing those words melted Rohit's heart. Home. He had a home— with Virat and Aman.
"Half an hour," Rohit replied softly before hanging up.
