Jassi was in the shower, the sound of running water faint in the background, when Aman paced around their apartment, his heart thudding in his chest.
He took a deep breath, determined.
It's time, he told himself.
He grabbed his phone and quickly ordered pizza from Jassi's favorite place and a slice of chocolate cake for dessert.
Then he set up the mattress on the floor, cozy with blankets and cushions.
A few candles were placed carefully around, giving the room a soft, warm glow.
He glanced toward the bathroom door, his nerves bubbling up again.
Okay... now or never.
Aman grabbed his phone and dialed Virat.
Virat was in the kitchen at home, pouring coffee into two mugs while Rohit leaned beside him, quietly watching.
The phone buzzed on the counter.
Virat smiled, recognizing Aman's name, and answered on speaker.
"Kiddo? All okay?" Virat asked, glancing at Rohit.
Aman's voice came through, a little rushed but excited. "Bhai, I've set things up. I'm gonna tell Jas... I love him. Properly. Like, now."
Virat stilled for a second before a soft, warm smile tugged at his lips. Rohit gave him a curious look, catching on immediately.
Virat chuckled, shaking his head. "It's perfect, Aman. You don't need all this... Jas will say it back even if you tell him over a cup of coffee in pajamas. But if this is how you wanna do it, then it's perfect."
"But I want to do this!" Aman whined lightly, like the kid he always was to Virat, even now.
Virat's tone softened even more. "Then do it. And stop overthinking. You're both already home."
Rohit smiled too, leaning in toward the phone. "Best of luck, Aman. You got this."
Aman grinned, his nerves settling a little at their support. "Love you guys."
Virat chuckled, "Love you too. Now go change into something Jas likes."
"Already on it!" Aman laughed. "Hoodie time."
Virat ended the call, shaking his head with fondness.
He handed Rohit his coffee, smiling knowingly.
"My kiddo's grown up," Virat murmured.
Rohit smiled back, resting his head briefly on Virat's shoulder. "Yeah... he is."
Jassi stepped out of the bathroom, towel-drying his hair, calling out, "Baby, it's time for your medici—"
The dim candlelight, the mattress covered in soft blankets, the cozy arrangement—everything felt warm, intimate, and completely unexpected.
Aman standing there with a sheepish but excited grin.
"Surprise!" Aman exclaimed, his voice slightly breathless with nerves.
Jassi blinked, momentarily stunned, before Aman quickly walked over, gently taking his hand and tugging him toward the cozy setup.
He made Jassi sit down on the mattress, his heart pounding as he tried to calm his racing thoughts.
Jassi looked around, still a little surprised, and asked, "What's all this, Aman?"
Aman sat down in front of him, holding both his hands now, his thumbs nervously stroking Jassi's knuckles. He took a deep breath, eyes searching Jassi's.
