Virat took Rohit inside and closed the balcony door. "Both of you, enough talking now—go to sleep. It's late, and we have a big presentation to prepare starting tomorrow," Virat instructed, and they both went to their respective rooms. Rohit, too, left after hearing that.
Virat rubbed his temples, feeling overwhelmed by everything at once. He took a deep breath and went into their room, knowing Rohit needed him.
When Virat entered, he saw Rohit curled up in bed, crying silently. The sight broke Virat's heart. He sat beside him and gently took him in his arms. Rohit buried his head in Virat's chest, whispering, "Please don't ever hate me."
"I promise, I won't," Virat said softly, kissing Rohit's forehead. After a while, Rohit dozed off. Virat carefully tucked him in and stepped out to the balcony for some fresh air; everything felt like too much to handle.
He sat on a chair, closing his eyes. After a few minutes, he felt fingers pressing his forehead.
"Aman," he whispered.
"Always," Aman replied, grinning as Virat opened his eyes.
After 10 minutes, Virat held Aman's hand and made him sit beside him.
"Did Jassi fall asleep?" Virat asked.
Aman nodded. "And why haven't you slept yet?" Virat asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Should I ask you the same? By the way, no cigarette this time—improvement! I can see how scared you are of Rohit scolding you," Aman teased, earning a playful tug on his cheeks from Virat.
"I'm trying," Virat admitted with a small smile. Aman sat on the floor, resting his head in Virat's lap. Virat ran his fingers through Aman's hair, reminded of similar moments with Rahul bhai.
"Bhai, he's very upset. I can't stand to see him like this," Aman said after a while.
Virat gently caressed his hair. "I know, bacha, but we need to give him time to open up. Him and Rohit—they need us to just be there for them," he replied softly.
"Now go to sleep. It's late. And before you say anything, I'll also try to sleep," Virat added.
Aman hugged him tightly. "Thank you for never leaving me," he mumbled.
"I know Rohit may have his reasons, but it doesn't make it right," Aman continued, seeing Virat's questioning look.
"I understand," Virat said, patting Aman's head. They both went to their rooms to sleep.
For the next three days, they didn't have much time to talk. Jassi and Virat were engrossed in project work, Aman was assisting Robert, and Rohit was handling a different project.
Rohit felt increasingly upset that Virat didn't make time to have a proper conversation. Their interactions were limited to meal times, and Rohit couldn't help but feel alone.
"I've completed this file," Rohit said, handing it to Virat, who silently took it, his eyes focused on his laptop screen.
"You're not going to check it?" Rohit asked, hoping to extend the interaction.
"I'll check it later," Virat replied, still typing.
"Why not now? I spent three hours on it," Rohit said, frustration creeping into his voice.
Virat looked up at him. "What's the problem?" he asked.
"The problem is that this file is my excuse to spend time with you. Virat, have you even bothered to ask me how I'm doing or tried to talk to me in the last three or four days? You're so engrossed in work that it feels like nothing else matters—not even me. You just don't care," Rohit snapped.
Aman and Jassi emerged from their room, hearing the argument. They didn't know what to say. Aman clenched his fists, tempted to pull Rohit aside, but he held himself back.
Virat, ever composed, masked his emotions. "I'll check the file later because I'm working on a priority task. I have a meeting with the board of directors in an hour. Understood?" he said in a professional tone.
Rohit nodded silently.
"Anything else?" Virat asked.
Rohit shook his head and left for their room. Aman and Jassi exchanged glances before returning to work.
Once Virat was alone, he rubbed his face and took deep breaths to regain his composure. "Focus. Focus—you've done this before; you can do it again," he mumbled to himself.
After 15 minutes, Virat called them to the living room.
"Aman, Robert, I've sent you the clues regarding the projects we lost and the presentation leak. Check your email. If you find the person responsible, fire them immediately. I trust your judgment," Virat said. Aman nodded, assuring Virat he'd handle it.
"Jassi, Rohit—you'll work together on a new project for the Delhi branch. This is crucial and will help strengthen my position in front of the board. There's limited time, so I suggest you work quickly and professionally, setting aside personal differences," Virat said firmly.
Both nodded.
"Get to work," he instructed.
Later, as Virat got ready for his meeting, Rohit hesitantly hugged him from behind. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
"Say it when you mean it," Virat replied, stepping away from the hug.
He kissed Rohit's forehead. "Take care," he said softly and left for the study.
Jassi and Rohit left for the office, Aman and Virat were at the apartment. Virat finished his meeting in an hour, he changed and came back to the living room.
"Bhai, are you okay?", Aman asked to which Virat nodded, "I have to talk to you regarding something important", Virat said sitting beside him.
"Bhai, please u don't have to do this", Aman requested having moist eyes, "I am sorry bacha but I have to", said Virat wiping his tears and hugging him close.______
