a little while later, my car was lined up on the grid in p2, lando just ahead in p1, and leclerc just behind in p3. and of course my teammate, lance, in p4. it's crazy to think we only have two races as teammates together.
not too far behind was kimi and ollie in p6 and p8.
as i start to head to the front of the grid, i hear someone calling my name. i turn around to see martin brundle, followed by a camera, walking over to me.
"hello martin!" i say, greeting him.
"angel! time for a quick talk?" he asks, leaning forward so i could hear him over the shouts and chatter on the grid.
"always time for a talk."
"first of all, amazing concert last night."
"thank you!"
"so, you think you can win today?"
"yeah, lando is good obviously but i think i can do it. im better." i say, laughing a little.
"there's quite a high chance of rain for the second half of the race do you think that could switch up the order of the grid a bit?"
"will definitely add some more fun into the race, yeah. rain in formula one is very unpredictable, as you know, so who knows? hopefully from a personal perspective, i'll see my lovely fiance ollie and kimi further up the pack." i reply, before i get called away to head to the front of grid.
"sorry martin, see you in two weeks!" i say, whilst waving goodbye to the camera and martin wishes me luck for the race.
i close the short distance to the front of the grid, and stand with lando who was already waiting.
"where were you before! you had to leave me with max and he did not shut up about his cats." he complains as a joke.
"i know i know, you missed me." i joke, getting a side eye from lando.
"yeah right." he scoffs, before we get out into position for the national anthem.
to my left was lando, and my right was esteban. why couldn't i put next to someone short- like yuki. otherwise i feel like a dwarf.
after the short national anthem, it was time to head back to car, and i find myself walking with ollie as fireworks start going off.
"what is the need for so many fireworks." i complain, my hand in ollie's as he walks me to my car.
"well it is vegas." he replies.
"it's before the race! there's nothing to celebrate yet." i say, as we reach the crowd of aston martin mechanics.
"trust you to complain about fireworks." he aays, laughing slightly.
"are you saying i complain too much?" i joke.
"no, i would never." he replies, before kissing me.
"i'll see you out on the track, hm?" i reply, after kissing him back.
"yes ma'am." he replies, before kissing me one final time before heading back to his car.
i start putting on my balaclava and everything else i had to put on, before finally climbing into the car.
"radio check, radio check." jules says down the team radio.
"all clear baby."
"so your just ignoring me now?" i reply, being met with nothing from the pit lane.
"no angel."
"i called you baby and you ignored me!" i say, getting no response once again.
"i have no game. this is what being engaged does to you." i say, before readjusting my position.
"let's have a clean race, these points are vital." jules replies.
"yes i know, i know." i reply.
finally, the grid was clear and the formation lap began. i've got to admit, from all the driving round this circuit i've done so far, i do really like the track. not for the track itself, but the views when driving round. i love night races, i love driving at night time.
but finally, i was lined up in p2, the rest of the cars lining up in their grid space. i was focusing on my start, keeping a clear mind. if i took first position in the first corner then that would be a good advantage, i good put a good gap between me and the other cars behind.
"last car now in position." jules says into the radio.
one light...
two lights...
three lights...
four lights...
five lights...
lights out...
i press my foot down onto the pedal, speeding forward and getting a good start, as good as i had hoped. lando had a good start too, we were side by side for a few moments. but as we went into turn 1, i was slightly ahead.
as i went to turn, heading into turn two, i feel something hitting my car from the back left. the next second, i wasn't moving, my car was facing the wrong way and all the other 19 cars were driving past.
