"0.937 to leclerc ahead... go get them kid."

"one by one." i reply, before focusing on the next overtake.

4 laps later, i was finally at a point where i could try to overtake the car ahead, but i needed to be more careful than normal due to the conditions. luckily for me, i know this track exceptionally well.

as we go round turn 12, i try my first attempt to overtake, taking the inside line from hamilton. he tries to defend, but pulls out to avoid any contact even though the overtake was completely safe. but, i was into p4.

"leclerc 3.274 ahead." jules says a few corners later.

"that felt good, overtaking a 7 time world champion." i say, smiling a little.

"yellow flags sector 2." jules says a few laps later.

"what? who is it? are they okay?" i say immediately, my thoughts going straight to my brother, my boyfriend and honestly everyone driving.

"safety car now."

"jules! tell me!"

"they are okay, they are getting out." he says, after a pause.

"who is it jules?" i say for the third time.

"antonelli, and albon." he replies.

"and my brother is okay?" i double check.

"yes, he's behind the barriers."

thank fuck for that.

because of the rain, it took the marshals a little longer to clear away the two cars, so the safety car was longer than normal. but it worked to my advantage, as i would be closer to leclerc in the restart.

"alright angel, safety car in this lap." jules says 6 laps later.

"what's the gap?"

"currently .283."

as jules finishes speaking, we cross the safety car line and we're back to racing, and i was about to complete my overtake on leclerc. thankfully, it was a clean and simple overtake around turn 2.

i was into podium positions. finally.

another 30 laps pass, and i was in p2, even after pitting. i guess it helped that most people pitted at the same time, or the lap after.

but i only had 10 laps left of the race, and lando was 3.585 seconds ahead. closing the gap shouldn't be a problem but lando is an amazing driver. but so is oscar, and i managed to overtake him after two laps of fighting.

"come on angel, this is the last step." jules says, as if he could read my mind.

"last one..." i say, before setting a fastest lap, beating my previous fastest lap.

5 laps later, i was finally within drs, although only barely.

"come on." i mutter to myself, as i look across at one of the live playing screens that was showing the mercedes garage.

kimi was stood with dad, biting his fingernails watching the screen he had, dad with his arm across his shoulders equally as focused on watching the race.

i have to do this. for kimi. for dad. for mom. for ollie. for flo. for jules. for all my fans. for everyone i grew up with who was watching me now. for seb. and finally, for me.

my first attempt to overtake lando was at turn 6, as i try to undercut him but i failed that time, losing a little time to him. once i closed the gap again, i try once more, not ready to give up. but once again i stay in p2.
