Jungkook sat at his desk, staring at the screen but reading nothing. His fingers hovered over the keyboard, motionless. His mind wasn't in his work, it was still trapped in yesterday.
That hug.
It played on a loop in his head. The softness. The feeling that, for once, he didn't have to pretend. And then, nothing.
And now, she was back at her desk like any other day. So close yet out of reach.
The biggest problem for Jungkook is that he wants Y/n to love him. Which stops him from being a villain in her life.
He couldn't speak to her. He never could. Not when she looked at him like that. She made him forget every sentence he practiced. Every reason he had to stay distant melted when she was near.
Then, the door opened without a knock.
"Emily," he muttered, eyes narrowing slightly. She walked in like she belonged there, her heels clicking purposefully against the polished floor. "I told you I'll be coming regularly. You didn't answer my texts."
"I thought I made it clear," Jungkook said, trying to keep his voice low. "You shouldn't come here."
Emily crossed her arms. "Well, I'm not here to ask permission."
Before he could respond, a knock came at the door this time. It was soft, polite. He glanced up, and time stuttered for a moment.
Y/N stepped inside. She wore a neutral expression; she had a steaming cup of coffee in her hand. His coffee order.
His heart jumped. He didn't even ask her to bring coffee for him. He asked his assistant not her.
"Jina is not well, so I am here in her place." Y/N said calmly, walking over and placing the cup on his desk.
"Yesterday the driver was not well now Jina. No one is well in your presence." He said. Y/n smiled.
Emily's gaze sharpened immediately, "You didn't have to go out of your way."
Y/N smiled, "It's no big deal."
There was an awkward pause, Y/n didn't leave nor did Jungkook ask her to leave. He couldn't hold eye contact with her for too long.
"Oh, by the way," Y/N added, "are you coming on the business trip next week?" Then she turned her gaze to Emily.
"Which trip?" Jungkook asked.
"Jina is sick so I will come." Y/n said.
"No, you know nothing about Jungkook's schedule, you can't replace his personal assistant." Emily said.
"I am willing to learn." Y/n replied.
"If you think you can get the job done you can come." Jungkook replied.
"Emily, are you joining too?" Y/n asked.
Emily's lips parted in surprise, but before she could answer, Jungkook stood abruptly.
