Y/N sits in the passenger seat, arms crossed loosely, eyes forward. She doesn't look at Jungkook but from the corner of her eye, she watches him.
A sharp jawline. A black police uniform. His sleeve rides up just enough to show the ink curled over his arm. Full-sleeve. She hadn't expected that.
He's changed.
Just gotten hotter.
"I can get off here," she says quietly, eyes still ahead. Jungkook frowns. "Here? It's the middle of the road."
"Yeah. Thanks for the bail. You can drop me here."
"You don't have anywhere to go, do you?" he asks.
Y/N doesn't answer.
"I'll figure it out," she finally says.
But the truth is, she preferred the jail. At least there, she had a bed. A door. A routine. A place. And no Taehyung.
Jungkook exhales, one hand still on the wheel. "How about you figure it out while staying at my place?"
She turns to him now, blinking. "What?"
"I have to keep my eyes on you anyway, until you get fully cleared and transferred. Would be easier if you were near me."
"I'll pay you back for the bail," she says quickly.
He shakes his head. "You already have. You did a lot for me and my family back then. Call this payback." She studies him. His tone is calm but sure. There's no awkwardness in his offer, no pity.
"You'll stay with me," he adds, like it's already decided.
She hesitates, then asks, "Are you married?"
He shakes his head once. "No."
"Girlfriend?"
This time, he smiles, "My girlfriend married someone else. She just got divorced, though, so... I'm hoping for the best."
Y/N lets out a quiet chuckle, not sure if she's amused or stunned. "That's a really cruel joke to make at a time like this."
"At least you smiled," he says, gently.
There's a pause.
Then, he asks, "Do you have kids?"
The smile slips from her face. Her expression tightens, gaze falling back to the road.
She doesn't answer.
Jungkook glances at her, long enough to notice, but doesn't press. He looked back to the road. ____
The door creaks open, and Jungkook steps aside, letting Y/N in first. The apartment is small, modest, but warm. Books and little plants line the shelves. A lived-in space.
"It's nothing fancy. But it's better than my old place." He shrugs. "Hope it meets your standards."
"I'm homeless right now, Jungkook. There's no such thing as standards." She replied.
