Chapter 46

Homura cried and cried and cried, she couldn't believe that half of Zetsu's head sat on the floor. She cried for hours, with Kiba hugging her and trying to calm her down. He stayed with her until she fell asleep. He put her to bed and left a clone with her before running off its the box in his arm to talk to Tsunade.

He kept trying to focus on the box but his mind wondered back to Homura crying her eyes out. It was the third time, since knowing her, he had seen her cry. It broke his heart every time. He rounded the corner to the office and knocked on the door.

"Come in" Tsunade said. Kiba walked in, his shoulders slumped. "What's wrong Kiba?" Tsunade asked. He didn't say a word, just put the box in front of her and waited for her reaction.

There was the sound of retching and Kiba looked up, Tsunade looked a pale sickly green and was starring at the inside of the box. Kiba handed over to note that was attached to the box and watched as Tusnade read it.

"I received a letter from Pein... his wife and child are due to arrive any day now I want them to stay with you and Homura" she replied. Kiba nodded, leaving the room and running back to Homura.

Kakuzu paced the corridor, waiting to be summoned by Kabuto. His mask lay long forgotten in his quarters and a smile graces his lips in a horrific grin as he heard his summons.

He walked into the room, the smile not leaving his face as he knelt in front of Kabuto.

"What next My Lord?" Kakuzu asked. "We attack the Rain Village. I want a public execution for their leader and his family. Also I want you to hunt down Hidan" Kabuto replied. The stitched man nodded and raised from his position, leaving the room.

Kakuzu downed another beer, Hidan sipping at another fruity drink along they way, smiling like an idiot.

A drunk idiot.

"Man she is soooo cute!!! Bet Cha' I can-" Hidan started before Kakuzu cut him off, a blade to his throat. "Shut up and listen to me... If you wanna keep your head then I suggest that you listen very carefully, I want you to go to The Leaf Village and stay with them for a while. Give me weekly updates on what they are doing for the next attack. Fail to do this and that little brat you love so will come to you in pieces understand?"

Hidan's eyes flickered slightly, remembering his little sister. "Don't you dare touch her" he growled. "I won't. But my followers might. I suggest you move quick-smart" Kakuzu whispered, releasing the blade and throwing the younger man away. Hidan sighed and ran out, fleeing towards The Leaf.

The shackles hurt against Pein's skin, the water pouring from the sky barely bothered him as he slowly moved through the city. The buildings around him ruined, the paper Angels that used to grace every doorway lay forgotten and ripped upon the soggy ground.

His eyes stayed pointed at the floor, he could feel the disappointed stares of his once free people, he could feel the heated glares of the enemy he had wounded.

But he didn't care. He doubted he ever would again. So in a last-ditch attempt to look strong he raised is weary head and tried to ignore the tears pouring down his face. He looked out at the sea of dead bodies of men, women, children and Shinobi.

That's when he saw a young, white-haired child with magenta eyes in between a hooded figure and.... Kakuzu!?!

"Kakuzu!!! Explain yourself!!" Pein roared. "My services where never yours" he replied calmly, as the guard pushed Pein forward. But Pein resisted, needing to find out why.

"Why?" It was loud enough for Kakuzu to hear, but only just. "Because, not only does he pay me well, but he and I see eye to eye on the brat. She killed my wife and almost killed me. I want revenge" Kakuzu replied. "When?" Pein asked, the stitched man now following his march. "When she and Hidan took that damned scroll from our temple" Kakuzu roared at Pein, who was shocked.

He remembered the story. It was why he wanted her to get the DokuDoku flower. She was ruthless and worked quickly. But now he had grown to care for the redhead, she was like a sister that shared his humour and goals in life. Someone he could go to for advice in his own personal life.

It was on her urging that he married Konan, someone he loved dearly. It was on her urging that they became allies with Konoha. It was on her urging that he start a family. He could remember all the afternoons he, Konan and Homura spent together just laughing and telling stories.

"What are you going to do to Homura?" Pein asked. "Rip her body to shreds but I won't do it~ one of three very special people is gonna do it" Kakuzu replied as the village's guillotine came into view. Pein cursed silently. He knew he should have gotten rid of the stupid hunk of wood and metal.

But he couldn't his chakra was all used up. He let his head drop as the guard marched him up to the platform. His head was roughly shoved into the opening and the device was clamped shut around him.

"You can still change your mind Pein-Sama" Kabuto whispered into his head, the rope to end the tangerine's life in his hand. "I will never betray any of my allies!! Much less Konoha!! Suck my ass" Pein shouted at him, loud rough for every last member of the bastard's army to hear.

"Well then any last words oh-so brave leader?" Kabuto asked, his tone mocking. Pein looked up at the sky and sent a silent prayer that his wife and child were ok.

"Those who do not understand true pain can never understand true peac-"
