They're not demigods and there is description of injury (I don't think it's that gory but I'll still warn)
Nico cursed as he pulled his car off the road and onto the barely there shoulder, the car's engine light beaming an alarming orange color.
His car rolled to a stop and he flicked off the engine. The indoor lights turned on and he slumped against the steering wheel.
He took a deep breath. Great, just his luck. Because of fucking course his car would decide to break down the one time he's on the most remote road he had ever been on. There wasn't anything for miles.
He grabbed his phone for the navigation, hoping he could see if there was any sort of place to stay nearby. As well as a tow truck, that would be nice too.
But when he leaned back and grabbed his phone, there was no service, and the navigation was twisting in circles, confused and off the map. He harshly slapped his phone on the passenger seat and made a strangled noise in his throat.
He brought his palms to his eyes, pushing in firmly to try and prevent himself from crying, but it was useless. He slumped back in the seat and stared at the car roof until the lights inside dimmed and went out all together.
A shiver ran down his spine when it sank in how dark it was. No lights for as far as the eye could see. He glanced around him, the buttons on his car's console illuminated a dull blue glow. Then his eyes moved towards the road. He peered out of the window, his own reflection pouting right back at him.
When he looked around it was only trees. Just the barely paved road he was on, and trees.
He breathed in deeply, trying to handle his nerves. It's fine, it'll be fine, he's fine. He leaned back in his seat again, resting his head against the headrest.
He probably shouldn't have left, it was impulsive and reckless, but he did so anyway. He didn't want to stay there, he was tired of the foster care system. He was eighteen and he had every right to leave. But now here he was, stranded only gods know where, with no service, and a broken down car.
A scream broke him out of his thoughts. He whipped his head around, trying to see if he could see anything, but it was no use. He hadn't imagining it, right? He had heard a scream... or maybe he was just tired, yeah that was probably what it was. He slumped back in the seat.
"Help!"
He shot up, his heart beating in his throat. Okay, that was definitely not his imagination, someone was most certainly in trouble.
Without thinking, he grabbed his phone, and swung the car door open, shutting it behind him. He turned his flashlight on and peered around.
From what it sounded like, it was far away. It was rather muffled and hard to hear, but he had no doubt he had heard it. So he set off.
To his right, there was a small metal fence dividing the road from the surrounding forest. He debated, but ultimately decided to step over it and into the mulchy forest.
The farther he walked into the trees, the more doubtful he got. Maybe he hadn't heard anything, maybe he was just hallucinating, and now he had left his car and when he turned back to check where he had stepped last, he had lost sight of the road all together.
He gulped, feeling fear rise in his chest and surround his lungs. It's fine, he'll be fine.
He trudged further into the woods and slowly he heard a sound. It wasn't a human sound, no, it was a steady whoosh, and a harsh crashing.
He sped up, barely avoiding tree roots. Then he smelled it. The soft saltiness of the sea. A brisk breeze slapped him in the face when he passed the bank of trees, a moon shining fiercely into the slamming waves and allowing him to truly see for the first time since his car broke down.
