wherein jennie would turn back the time if she could, and she did

-

Hearing the door being opened, Jennie took long strides toward the door and opened it before Lisa got the chance to press the last code.

"Where have you been?" Jennie's voice was low and quiet but undeniably irritated. She looked over her shoulder, "Mom's sleeping over so be quiet."

With tired eyes, Lisa passed by her girlfriend while sighing, throwing her gym bag on the floor. "Why don't you ask her to move in with us at this point? She's here more than once a week."

Jennie frustratedly closed the front door and followed Lisa to the kitchen. "It's because she knows I'm alone. Again, where have you been?"

"Rehearsals," Lisa simply answered. She opened the fridge to get a bottled water. She noticed Jennie's blank stare just as she was about to drink. She annoyingly placed it on the counter, both hands resting on it as she stared back at Jennie on the other side. "What?"

"Alice said you left the studio early," Jennie stares at her suspiciously, talking about Lisa's manager that she called earlier to ask about Lisa's whereabouts. "Who were you with?"

"No one, oh my God," Lisa pinched the bridge of her nose, "I was just by myself walking around the area. Don't start, Jennie."

"You're lying again," Jennie rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest. Her pink tank top hangs a little low, revealing a glimpse of her breasts.

She suddenly thought of how seldom they make love nowadays. It's been more than a month already because all they do these days is fight and ignore each other.

And when they do, it still felt... soulless. They used to have so much passion.

Lisa drank from the bottle quickly, heaving as she finished it, crumpled, and threw in the bin while ignoring Jennie's accusing gaze.

"I don't even want to defend myself anymore, just believe whatever you want to since you don't know how to listen."

"You're always out late, no one knows your whereabouts, not even me, your girlfriend," Jennie lays out her frustrations while following Lisa to their bedroom, but not shouting because her mother is just on the opposite side of the wall. If she wasn't, Lisa would probably go straight to the guest room and lock herself from Jennie.

"I'm tired," Lisa proceeds to get a shirt, changing into it.

Jennie unabashedly stared. "You wanted me to trust you again but you don't act like it, honestly."

Lisa unbuttons her pants, pushing it off her legs. "You know what? I shouldn't even be begging for trust when I never broke it." She pulled up her favorite pair of black pajama bottoms and then killed off the lights.

"Let me be clear..." Jennie, voice shaking, sat on her side of the bed, back on Lisa who was getting under the sheets. "When I broke up with you, you told me you'd try harder this time, not because you betrayed me, but because you broke me. Remember? You were always gone, like you are now."

"I did try harder, remember?" Lisa says quietly, shifting on the bed, back on Jennie as well. "It's just... hard to keep proving myself and still being the bad guy. I don't have it in me anymore to keep begging."

"You just stopped caring," Jennie whispers in tears.

Lisa went silent for a while.

She closed her eyes, trying to even her breathing. She wished she really did stop caring, but no. Every single fight with Jennie ruins her. It breaks her to see Jennie hurt, but she doesn't know how to stop it when she's hurt too.
