I got to my feet and put some clothes on. I started cleaning my room when dad got in.
"What are you doing?" He asked me surprised.
"I'm getting ready to leave."
"How did you know? Oh yeah, I should have noticed... Kate."
"Well yeah, thanks for telling me so early!" I shouted in his face.
"Hey Jason, you know why I did it. I did it to protect you_"
"Protect me from what? From the truth that's facing us? No sorry dad, that's no protection."
He looked at his right hand. He was holding a black box the size of his wrist.
"What is that?" I asked him.
"That... is why I didn't tell you earlier. But it looks like you're not grown enough to have it. Hurry up, we will leave tomorrow." Said dad before closing my room's door.
That day passed cleaning our house and putting our bags in dad's van. And finally, it was time to rest.

"Jason come on, wake up we're leaving in 30 minutes." I heard Kate as she was playing with my hair.
I got up, knowing it was the last day for me in Manhattan. I wanted to see Elsa and Leo one last time but knew it wasn't possible.
"You're not sad?" I asked Kate.
"Look. Everything happens for a reason. I will not lie to you, but I'm a little sad despite all what is happening."
"Especially you. Try to take life way too seriously sister. Than you'll see that everything we're leaving behind is worth than anything else!"
"You mean Elsa."
"No, I don't mean her in particular. Well, look at you and Leo, you're_"
"There's nothing between me and Leo so please, don't mention him anymore."
She was so angry I didn't notice she had tears in her eyes.
I knew it, I thought. I knew there was something between them both!
"Alright. I won't mention him anymore." I said gently, "Just wipe those tears and let's think about our new family."
I didn't like the idea of this whole 'New Family' thing. But I couldn't live without dad or Kate especially after mom had gotten out of our lives. But I convinced myself that maybe it was a new start. I would have a step-brother and a step-sister, how nice. If they were going to make a joke out of me (and I mean she and Kate), I didn't know, maybe I would throw them out of a balcony.
I was deep in my thoughts when dad shouted from the parking. There was no doubt we were leaving now.
"Let's go, we're leaving." I told my sister.
"No, he wants us to meet someone."
I didn't know what to say, but I knew we were going to meet Luke and that girl Kate didn't mention her name.
I opened the entrance door with Kate beside me to see two new faces. Sure I've seen Luke before but not so close, I realized he had blue eyes just like Kate's.
I thought he should have been me for Kate's twin, sandy blond hair and blue eyes. Then I looked at the girl next to him. She was pretty, with caramel-color hair braided over one shoulder and almond honey-color eyes. I looked deep in her eyes and saw a serious expression, the girl seemed serious.
"Hi Luke," I said then looked at the girl, "and you're_"
"I'm Selena." She said quickly with a dry smile on her face.
Wow, I thought, the girl is indeed serious!
I thought about what I might tell her. My name, my age, my hobbies? Nope.
Then I thought about the name Elsa had given me, Jace. I glared at Kate then returned to Selena and introduced myself: "I'm Jace Ford." That was all I said...
I was totally ignoring Luke. I didn't like that guy despite the fact that I had spoke with him. I just didn't like him then without a reason.
"Jace?" Luke locked eyes with me then smiled at Kate, "Nice to meet you." Then looked back at Selena, "Selena, you must know Jaso~ Jace better. Go with him so you two get the chance to know each other better. Kate come with me." He finally said taking her hand and headed to the parking.
"So, um..." I said hesitating, "how old are you?"
"I'm 16. You're 16 too right?" She guessed.
"Well... Yeah, I will celebrate my 17's birthday in 4 months, on November 21. When's your birthday?"
"September 13." She said, but for some reason, I was afraid of her, "I guess I'm older than you."
"You are indeed. So what? If you're older you might have better chances in killing me?" I asked joking, but she didn't laugh, actually she didn't offer me even one simple dry smile.
What a great step-sister, I thought, so funny.
I showed her the house, the living room, the kitchen, the salon. And when I was done she glared at me: "What is that?"
"That is our house."
"Yeah but, why did you show it to me? We're leaving actually, we won't return here. So everything you've done, you've done it for nothing."
Ok, she had a point. Showing her the house was the dumbest idea ever. I mean what was I thinking? I couldn't believe I was so stupid like that. Hanging around with Kate made my stupidity lever get higher.
"We need to leave--" I started saying when Elsa yelled from I don't know where: "You're leaving Jace?"
I was lucky she called me by the name she had made in front of Selena.
"Elsa, what are you doing?" I asked her.
"Not a simple goodbye? You're leaving just like that?"
Selena looked at us with no expression on her face, she had a true poker face, like if she knew she shouldn't interrupt our moment. And yeah, I felt more guilty toward Elsa. I left her house two days ago with a goodbye kiss and raced to the street. And now she is the one who came to my house, and I just remembered her because she showed up before I was leaving, in time I should have been thinking about her all the time.
Then Elsa looked at Selena with a what are you doing here and who are you expression.
Then I quickly changed the goodbye subject and looked at Elsa: "Elsa, this is Selena. Selena, this is Elsa."
Elsa glared at me and asked: "And who's Selena?"
"I'm Jace's step-sister." Selena said before I could say it.
