"They're not in these lands anymore!" Jaz said aloud.

I realized I was staring at her.
"Yeah..." I cleared my throat, "How do you know that?"

"The tree told me."

"The tree told y_"

"Hey. Jace." She said smiling, "No more questions. We need to find them. And about how I did it, the tree is connected the this land, so it can feel anything on it."

"Oh." I began to understand a little, but that was okay with me.
"We're going back to Fred and Selena then! They'll know what to do."
"I don't think so." Jaz said, "You're the leader, Jason Ford. You must know what to do."

I didn't know how she knew my name or even my last name.
"How did you know?" I asked her.

"Well, the mountain told me." Jaz said, "She told me when I was there that a boy named Jason Ford will bring me back to my world. I do believe it's you."

Our eyes met, those green eyes were so beautiful. But I kept my distance, I mean, she didn't seem trying to be more than a friend of mine.

"How do I make a choice?" I said finally.

"That's easy, Jason." She said turning her back on me, looking at the horizon, "Follow your instincts."

"My brain isn't even working!" I said joking.

"Make it work then." She turned and smiled. I smiled as well. I closed my eyes, and I could feel they were burning. Then I opened them, glaring at Jasmine.
"We return to Rome. Find Kate. Finish the business."

"That's not bad!"

"I only have one simple question. Why am I the leader?"

"I... I don't know. You'll figure it out later. Now let's move."

"Fred!" I shouted. He was fifty feet away.
He turned and saw me. Selena was next to him.
They ran toward us.
"Where's Kate and_" Fred began to say.

"We don't know." I replied. I glared at Selena.
"You!" I yelled, "You're the problem aren't you?"

Selena said nothing, but Fred defended her.
"What are you talking about? Stop it right_"

"I don't want to stop! When I thought I could heal you and look what you've done!"

Selena met my eyes immediately, and I could see hurt in them.
"You wanted to save me?"

"Of course." I replied.

She took a step forward and hugged me. I hugged her back.
"I'm sorry for everything Jace." Selena apologized.

I didn't reply, because I wasn't sure what to say.
She broke away and our eyes met.
"I swear I didn't do anything this time." She said.
I nodded. She smiled.

"Friends again?" I asked.

"Friends."

I looked around me. Where's Jaz?

"Jaz?" I yelled.

"Here." I saw her shouting 30 feet away.

I was relieved she was still here. I really wanted to take her back again to the future after I knew what had happened with her friend. It's painful and I knew it, because I've tasted the meaning of real loss. I ran to her and hugged her.
She was a little shorter than me.

"Oh I thought you were gone!" I whispered.

I could feel she was uncomfortable but she didn't pull back.
"Guess I'm safe." Jaz said.

"Yeah... You are..." I said smiling.

I let go of her. "Where's Fred?"

"He passed the portal already."

"Oh cool... He's so patient you know."

"Stop making comments!" Selena said, "Just let us pass already."

I looked at Jaz. I couldn't know exactly how she was reacting to the fact that she'll be home soon.
I smilet t her.
"You wanna stay here?" I asked.

"Duh!" She replied, "Of course not!"

And with that I took both the grils' hands as we jumped in the water.
