Veer moved toward the staircase without another word.

The slow clapping had stopped, but the echo still lingered in the hollow structure. His boots hit the concrete steps with steady, deliberate force as he climbed.

Second floor.

The wind howled through the unfinished walls. A faint light flickered at the end of the corridor.

He followed it.

Each step closer tightened the air around him.

The sound came from a half-closed room.

Veer pushed the door open.

Inside, under a single hanging bulb, a girl sat on a chair with her back facing him. Her hair fell over her shoulders. Her posture was still.

For one split second—

His heart stopped.

“Sanjana…” the name almost formed in his mind.

He stepped forward.

The girl slowly turned her head.

Not Sanjana.

Before he could react—

“Surprise!!”

A voice echoed behind him.

Veer turned sharply.

Dario stepped out from the shadows with a wide, mocking grin, clapping slowly.

“Miss me?” Dario’s voice dripped with amusement.
Veer’s expression turned to stone.

The girl stood up and walked toward Dario confidently.

“Meet my girlfriend, Veer,” Dario said proudly, sliding an arm around her waist.

She smirked at Veer, completely at ease.

“Oh, my love,” Dario cooed dramatically, tilting her chin up before pressing a possessive kiss to her lips.

Veer didn’t react outwardly.

But inside—

The fury burned colder.

This wasn’t about jealousy.

This wasn’t even about intimidation.

This was psychological warfare.
