Fear Street 2000

Max looks away from the photograph, raises her head, and says -And that's precisely why you can't confront her... you have to run, like I did... but you should know it's a never-ending story. Once your mind is open, you can't close it again. You'll always see 'things' that others prefer to ignore... and those 'things' will see you- She empties her glass.

Josh asks -So you...?- She replies -Your friend Sam... something "similar" happened to a friend of mine... he said these things have a kind of "signal" like a radio... the further you go, the less influence they have. Take the car and keep going north, to Chicago, Michigan... all the way to damn Canada if you have to, until the signal weakens-

Deena then tells her -We found the body... only the hand is missing- Max says, distraught, -That's not possible...-

Then they proceed to explain how everything happened in Fear Street 2000.

Max gets up and says -That changes everything... I'll take care of it-

Josh asks -What... how... who?- She takes the book and flips to a page with several phone numbers. As she walks to the phone, she says -You guys had your friends... I have mine-

Deena asks -So... can you help us?- Max answers, phone already to her ear -Trust me, this group of creeps are the greatest experts in "Stranger Things" you can imagine... we'll sort this out quickly- And she starts pressing the buttons.

Deena and Josh exchange hopeful smiles.

(3 Doritos later)

Deena and Josh looked bored and sad.

While Max was yelling into the phone -PALAU? WHERE THE HECK IS THAT?- Josh answered in a low voice –Oceania- but Deena shushed him with an elbow.

Max, pacing the room, asked -AND WHAT THE HELL DID YOU TAKE ALL THE WAY TO OCEANIA TO DO?- Josh replied -I told you- but his older sister shushes him.

The adult woman sighed and said, annoyed -No, no... forget it. The last thing I need right now is to think about mysterious islands... and Nancy?... of course, I don't even know why I'm asking-

He leans against the doorframe and finishes -well, thanks... no, don't even think about it, I'm aware of your "health status" just... in the unlikely event that either of us... no, forget it, goodbye Hop- and hangs up.

Deena asks, disappointed -Not them either?- Max shakes his head and is about to put an "x" next to the last number, like he did with the others, but there's no point; he just closes the book.

The girl stands up and says -Then it's up to us. Just tell us where the hand is and...-

But Max raises his hand to interrupt her, freezes for a second, coming to terms with the situation, then sighs and finally says -I'll go with you-

The siblings turn to look at each other, and she asks -Are you sure...?- Josh adds -And your family...?-

To which Max, grabbing her bag, says -I spent almost 20 years running from this... and the fact that you're here means I clearly didn't work. I'm not that scared little girl anymore... I've faced MUCH worse... so I'm going-

They look at her gratefully, and she clarifies -But you guys drive. My husband took the car-

Josh asks -You only have one...?- Max rolls her eyes, and Deena nudges her with her elbow.

Several hours later, with the three of them standing in front of the mall and Sam making noise from the trunk, Max says wearily -Mall... it's always a damn mall-
