Behind a closed door, watched by Liam, who was innocently whistling with a plastic cup in his hand, moans and a mattress creaking could be heard, while the song "Smoke on the Water" played in the background.

Suddenly, the noise inside the room ended. A girl's voice said, -All set...- from inside, Henry asked -Already?-

And Liam knocked on the door and said -What do you want... for her to make you breakfast?... If the lady says "all set" it's "all set"-

The girl said -Don't scream, idiot... and get out of here before my brother sees us-

A few minutes later, Liam and Henry were leaving Beta House, before closing the door, Liam yelled -HEYYY STIFLER-

A voice asked -WHAT?- and Liam yelled back -FUCK YOU- Laughter filled the room, the voice replied -I WISH BRO, I WISH- and then joined in.

As they walked, Liam commented -I know how you feel...- but Henry responded skeptically -I doubt it-

Liam laughs and speculates -it's like your head and butt switched places, like you really need to shit, but your guts are completely empty... you have an itch in every last inch of your body, and down there you still feel the phantom pleasure, but it doesn't bring you joy... more like it disgusts you-

Henry only shrugs, Liam continues -and right now you're probably swearing it'll never happen again... the feeling will only last until the next party, when someone else brings out some other "special" thing-

No one spoke anymore, but halfway through, Henry started stammering a little song.

Again, both of them were lying in their beds and Henry comments -That was the first time... you know?-

Liam asks -Of what?- Henry just stays silent, and finally Liam understands and answers -Oh shit... sorry-

To which Devlin asks -Why?- Liam shrugs and adds -Well, for being there-

Henry laughs and comments -If it weren't for your intervention, I doubt we'd get this far...- Maldonado adds -Well, I'd say "Molly" had a lot to do with it- to which they both burst out laughing.

After a few moments of silence, the blond admits -Sorry for going on about the diary thing, you're right, it's none of my business-

Liam responds -Look... I get what you're getting at, really... but this is really upsetting me-

Henry comments -Yeah, I've noticed your "alters" are coming out a lot more than usual- Liam says -Yeah, they think I need their help, and I appreciate it, but they're wasting my turn and it's not fair... I'm surprised you noticed the difference, most people don't-

Devlin mentions -It's easy when you notice the eyes- Liam asks -What are you talking about?-

To which the blond replies -Every alter has different ones- The brunette sits up in his bed and says -What?... No, look, my eyes are hazel, so depending on the fluorescence, they can "appear" to be different shades-

Devlin comments -I know, but I'd say that fluorescence comes from within, let me explain...- and sits down too.

Liam turns on the light, and Devlin begins -When you're "Danny" your eyes look dark brown; when you're "Will" they can look green; "Maldonado" has golden brown eyes, and finally, "Dan's" they glow blue... unless there are more people in there that I don't know yet-

Maldonado comments -Dan and Danny are the same- to which Henry replies -Not anymore- Liam replies -Well, thanks for the information- in a serious and even tone.

Henry comments -Maybe I notice it because I have the line- to which Liam asks -Do you mean the shining?-

Devlin shrugs and says -My friends and I always call it "the line" because it connects us-

Liam comments -Nice way of looking at it. Mine used to call it "powers"- to which they both laugh, and Henry comments -How dramatic... but that's kind of oversimplifying it, isn't it?- To which Liam agrees.

Devlin asks -So how did you get it?- Maldonado asks -What are you talking about?-

The blond asked -The lin... the shining, or have you always had it?- The brunette replied -As far as I know, it's something inherited-

Henry replied -I assure you, neither of my parents had the slightest idea what people were thinking, or they wouldn't have painted the house orange and I wouldn't have been "the boy who lives in the pumpkin"- to which they both laughed.

Liam asked -So... how did I 'get' yours?- Henry replied -My friend Duddits gave it to me, well... maybe "give" isn't the word... more like "awakened" it-

Maldonado comments -Don't spread it around, but I know the government was doing experiments with LCD on children from the time they were in gestation to artificially awaken it, maybe it was something like that-

Devlin comments -We needed to find a girl and we thought he could...- but Liam asks -We?-

Henry answers -Me and my friends, Pete, Jonesy, and Beaver- Liam asks -Beaver?-

The blond man shrugs and explains -We called him that because he had wood-eating pica, he was always chewing on his pencils... although, come on, his glasses and height didn't help- making them both laugh.

Then Devlin says -Now it's weird to see him without a toothpick between his teeth- Maldonado comments -Interesting outburst-

The blond man shrugs and comments -At least it's completely legal for all ages- to which the brunette comments dramatically -Whoooo, cheap shot-

They started laughing again. Suddenly, Henry asks -And who's Mike?- To which Liam asks -What?-

Well, in the end, if I split it into two parts, I think the cut looks good there.

You'll notice on my cover that Danny Lloyd, Noah Schnapp, and Ewan McGregor have completely different eyes. I could just leave it out, but that wouldn't be creative. So, what did you think of my explanation?

Do you have to be born with "the shining"... or can you develop it over time and it "helps"?

Are the shining, the line, and the powers the same thing?
