Do you want to be my friend?
Two women were talking on a bench in the park.
Wendy Torrance said -... and now I have to leave him at his house and crawl to my mother to apologize and admit that she was right- while taking a drag on her cigarette.
Maggie Tozier answers -Yes, I understand, I have to take mine to his mother too, and then go back and pretend that we don't have a child and that this doesn't bother me... but what can I do? I already knew this before we got married-
Wendy comments -it must be weirder for her husband...- Maggie snorts and says -don't even tell me, I don't know the whole story, but from what I understand after her first daughter was born, they "took some time" and then she met Wentworth, they even moved in together and everything, but she ran out of Derry a week later, that's a common reaction, so she came back crawling with her husband and then she realized she was pregnant and the dates led everything to one logical conclusion-
The other woman says -wow, it's a very complex situation, poor kid, from here to there, don't you think that could affect him in the long run?- Maggie answers -well everything seems... What the hell is going on there?- when she hears the background noise.
The two women then turn around and see two small figures on the floor rolling around on the floor, but not in a playful way, both visibly angry.
They both get up from their seats and run towards them, Maggie says -RICHIE... stop right now- and Wendy adds -Danny, stop it-
And they find two children, with Richie biting Danny on the leg, while the brown-haired boy hit him on the head with a sand shovel.
The two women manage to untangle them and drag each child away from the other.
Some time later Maggie took off the boy's muddy shirt and said to him -look how dirty you are, I can't believe it, you know today is important, it's the first time Karen and I will meet-
The boy remained silent and sulking, Maggie visibly affected, but wanting to keep a serious face asked -do you want her to not let you stay with us anymore... is that it?-
Richie says -no... but he...- Maggie told him trying to appear serious -it's just nothing... you will apologize to him before we leave... look when you're with them you can't act like that, okay?... put on this that your mom gave you for Christmas- while she took a polo shirt out of a suitcase.
The boy didn't seem very convinced, but so as not to anger her more, he did it. Then she took a napkin soaked in the sink and removed the mud from his hair while she said to him -when you're with them you have to behave well, understood? No weird jokes, no bad words, and try not to make them angry, please-
Richie said -yes, Maggie- that made her sigh, maybe one day he would call her mom, but she wouldn't push it for now.
The boy made a gesture to put on his glasses and she said -wait, no, they broke, the glass could fall and cut you, better go without them, later maybe they can buy you some other ones-
The woman and the boy came out of the bathroom with him already looking very different than he used to, only to realize that the others had already left.
Wendy in the car says to the other child -Da... Will, you shouldn't fight like that with other children- the little boy only answers -he said that my clothes were...-
But the woman says to him -that doesn't matter, you can't lose your temper like that, you should control your anger- maybe she was saying it to the boy, maybe she was saying it to herself, who knows.
The boy mentioned -dad said that I shouldn't let anyone make me feel less than ever...- before he could say more Wendy blurted out -yes... and look how that ended-
Only then did she realize that she wasn't sure who they were talking about, Jack or her biological father, in the end the two turned out to be more alike than she thought.
Wendy then said -yes, there are times when you have no choice but to fight, but you must try not to get to that point, there is almost always a way to avoid it and you are very smart, I know you can do it-
The boy looks at the ground and says -sorry- Wendy just strokes his head and says -don't worry, look we're almost there-
The car passed in front of the Hawkins power plant, just as a group of black trucks passed by, in the seat of one, there was a red-haired woman, who for a moment stared at Will as the two cars passed each other.
A few weeks later, the brown-haired boy was sitting on a swing, when the black-haired boy saw him he thought "I should apologize" for recognizing him, but when he sat on the other swing, he realized that he never introduced himself that other time.
So he said -hi, I'm... Mike- since that's what Nancy insisted on calling him, the other boy answered -hi, I'm Will-
Then Mike asked -do you want to be my friend?- and Will answered -yes-

Well, this universe established that Mike/Richie is the biological son of Karen and Wentworth Tozier, which to me makes no sense at all, it would be much more consistent if he were the son of Ted and Maggie, plus Mike is the one who most resembles Ted of his children with his black hair, and even more so with Richie's glasses.
But once again, I work with what they give me, and this is the only way that approach was made possible for me, while maintaining the characteristics of the families.
And please don't blame Maggie and Wendy for their children's bipolarity, they are just scared and don't want them to get into trouble, and sometimes adults are not aware of the weight their words have on children.
