SOLEIL POV
"Alright everybody, I gotta say something to my baby girl." My mom said standing up with a glass in her hand. But it wasn't no alcohol in it, I made sure of that. She had orange juice in it. As she should.
Today was my bridal shower and I was showered with all the love and gifts. Sa'Nay is my maid of honor so she put it all together and it came out so beautifully. I could cry.
"Soleil, baby I know I wasn't the best mother. And I know they took you from me when you were four years old. And I'm so sorry about that. I'm sorry about everything, all the times you questioned my love for you and all the times I let you down and hurt your heart. All the times I chose drugs over you. I wasn't right in the head but I'm here now and I promise you I'm not going anywhere this time. You went without me for so long. But.. You really made something of yourself without me around and I'm so proud of you. You were independent at a young age, got your own place and car at 18 years old, handled your business and had all the respect in the world for yourself. That's all I ever wanted for you. Was for you to love yourself and show love to others. Now you're a mother, and you're about to be a wife. I'm so happy for you because you truly deserve this and all the happiness in the world my baby. I love you so much-" My mom started off before she choked up a bit and covered her face with one hand.
"Aww mama.." I said as my eyes watered. I could tell everything she said so far was from the heart.
I stood up and walked over to her and she tried drying her tears but more kept falling.
"I'm just happy for you baby girl, you really deserve this moment. You've been there for everybody else and now it's time for everybody to be there for you. I just hope your wedding day is the best day you've ever experienced in your entire life." My mom said and everyone started clapping as we hugged.
"Thank you mommy." I said hugging her and she gasped.
"You called me mommy.." She said in shock before hugging me tightly and I hugged her back again.
I usually call her mom or mama, or even by her government, Ayesha.
But I'm starting to feel more safe with my mother to be vulnerable and call her mommy. Something I always wanted to call her since I was a little girl. I don't know, that may not seem like a big deal to some people but it was to us.
"I love you. Thank you." I said to her.
"I love you so much more baby." My mom said to me. I wiped her tears and kissed her cheek and she smiled.
"Okay I wanna say somethinggggg." Sa'Nay said. I looked at Diana and could tell she wanted to say something too, but she probably didn't know if she should or not since my mother was here as well.
But I told my mama to keep it cute, I don't need the drama at my bridal shower and she promised she wouldn't say nothing to Diana so.
Sa'Nay then stood up and said "Alright so, if y'all don't know me, I'm Sa'Nay. And I will be Soleil's sister in law once she officially marries Tremaine. I met Soleil when she first started dating Tremaine, and we clicked instantly. Had the same interests, hobbies, and we thought a lot alike. And she was always there for me through everything. Everytime I called her at three in the morning crying, she'd be on the phone with me till the morning, until she knew I was okay. We'd fall asleep on the phone if we had to. Now to see her relationship with Tremaine blossom the way it did, and now they are about to get married and raise their son together, I'm just so proud of you Soleil. I really am. And I'm so happy for you. Like your mother said, you deserve this moment. You love that man DOWN, and you're on go for him! You do it all for him! He better had put a ring on it okaaaay" and everybody laughed.
