A few months later
"You have a collect call from the California correctional facility. Would you like to accept the charges?"
"Yes" I said already knowing it was Jazmonè, the girl I met when I was locked up.
I always told her to call me whenever she wants to, and I kept my word.
Each time she calls, I answer. She still has another year left to do, and I'm hoping it'll go by fast.
"Hey Soleil" I heard her say.
"Hey girl! How you holding up?" I asked her.
"I'm doing okay, can't wait to get out this mothafucka though." She said.
"Yeah I feel you on that." I said.
"But I got good news" She said.
"What's that?" I asked.
"So at first I was gone have a year left to do in here but if I remain on good behavior, I can get out in 8 months." Jazmone said.
"Yes! Girl and when you get out, you let me know immediately and we'll do something okay?" I said.
"Oh girl you gone be the first I call. How many months pregnant are you now?" She asked.
"I am 7 months, and me and my man are having a boy." I said.
"Ahhhh! I'm so happy for you, oh my gosh. I remember when you told me in here that you want kids and marriage wit yo man. Now we just waiting on that ring okaaay" She said.
"Yup! I can't wait. I'm just in a way better place than I once was, I'm so grateful. Me being pregnant has shifted my perspective in life." I said.
"Your baby is a gift." Jazmone said.
"Aww thank you girl." I said.
"Of course, and I-"
"You have a minute left on this call"
"I fuckin hate when it says that." She said.
"I do too. They don't give no type of time on the phone" I said.
"At all. But I was saying I love you and I appreciate you keeping your word, and coming to see me and answering calls and everything like that. My own family don't even do that. But you do." Jazmone said.
"I understand the position you in, and I would never leave you astray girl. I made you a promise in there and I'm gone keep it." I said.
