Chapter 15 The Gardener Did It

Maya
I curled up on the couch with a blanket wrapped around me, a carton of chunky monkey just with in reach. It's 1am on a Saturday morning, 24 hours after Lucas walked out of my life. And I don't think he's coming back. Questions raced through my mind, it felt like a million bees were buzzing in my head.
When did Lucas start liking me?
Why didn't he just tell me how he felt?
What did he mean by everyone leaves him?
Why won't he tell me his secrets?
Why do I always seem to ruin relationships with people?
I sighed and took another bite of ice cream, my life has turned into a soap opera.

Farkle
I picked another book of the shelf and examined it. A familiar face came into vision.
"Oh hey Riley."
"Farkle! Why aren't you with Lucas?"
"Didn't you know? Lucas is leaving tomorrow. He's living with his aunt in Texas."
I returned the book to the shelf and picked up another one.
"I guess it's just another friend who's leaving me."
She mumbled, I didn't press on the subject anymore.
"Well maybe since Lucas will be gone you and I could spend some more time together? Or maybe no..."
My voice trailed off, Riley seemed to find it funny.
"Farkle I would-"
Her head snapped up and she rushed past me.
"Charlie?!"
"Riley!"
A boy about medium height with chocolate brown hair and a green plaid shirt ran up to hug Riley. I quietly stood behind her.
"Oh my gosh what are you doing here?!"
Charlie let go of her and laughed.
"My dad got a new job, I go to John Quincy again!"
Riley started squealing and hugged him again, the librarian poked her head around the corner and gave us a stern look. We all quieted down.
Riley remembered I existed again.
"Oh right Farkle! Um this is Charlie Gardener, we used to be neighbors before he moved."
I gave somewhat of a smile, I don't like this Charlie guy.. Not one bit.
"Well uh we have a lot of catching up to do! Farkle do you mind if we kinda ditch you?"
Riley asked in her sweetest voice.
I shook my head and gestured to the door.
"Nah man why don't you come with us? I can always use another friend."
I smirked, this Charlie guy just keeps getting better and better.
"Thanks but I have enough friends."
I snapped, Riley looked at me confused.
"I guess we'll go then."
I watched them leave, Charlie put his arm around Riley. He looked back at me and smirked before hugging her again.
This kid doesn't know who he's messing with.
