A/N: Since I'm currently locked out of my house I figured why not write a chapter!😑

Farkle
I straightened my tie in the mirror, I think I look professional enough.
"Farkle are you ready yet? The Matthews are waiting downstairs."
Lucas called from the front door.
I sighed, it's now or never.
I followed Lucas out the door and into the sedan.
(A/N: Okay I know the Matthews had some specific kind of car but I couldn't remember.)
Never once did I think I would be going into court, going against my own mother. She wasn't always so mean, but 4 years ago when my dad was put in jail, she turned evil. She thought it was my fault he was in there because he didn't take enough care of me. The last thing she told me before she went like crazy was that she would take care of me.

Court rooms always make me nervous, this isn't my first trial. The memory of those 3 terrifying, dreadful days still haunt me. Never again will I let that happen.
The jury came in and took their seats along with the judge.
(Skip all boring court stuff)
"Please bring in Jennifer Minkus."
That's when I saw my mom for the first time. Yes I've seen her almost everyday of my life, but this time she looked different. All that fancy makeup didn't cover her face and the usual salon hair products were absent. She looked normal. And I think for a split second while I was looking at her, she flashed a quick smile at me. I felt a hand on my shoulder, it was Riley.
"Come on we have to take our seats."
I followed Riley and Maya up to the chairs, they're my two witnesses.
"The defense calls Farkle Minkus to the stand."
My entire body shook as I walked up there. It's make it or break it time.
"Is it true that your mother, sitting right there, has beaten you before?"
I quickly nodded.
"And you told everyone just now because...?"
I wasn't prepared for this.
"Um,  uh.... I-I was scared."
"Scared you would get in trouble because you were lying?!"
The defendant yelled at me.
The entire court room gasped.
"I-I wasn't lying!"
The defendant started to pace a little.
"Mr.Minkus, Farkle if I may. You never had actual evidence that you were beaten. And you never felt the need to show the police your scars or bruises?"
"I-I uh I umm...."
Why didn't I show my scars? I'm so dumb.
"I have proof that Farkle was telling the truth because-"
Riley was on a roll, until her phone rang. She stared at the screen for a moment. Then shrugged and answered it.
"Hello?
Yeah but I'm kinda busy right now."
I could hear yelling on the other end, like someone was in drastic need of help.
"Riley please help!!"
Yelled the other line.
She looked at me and turned back to the phone.
"Okay Charlie I'll be right there."
I couldn't even look at her right now, I can't believe this.
"I-I'm sorry Farkle."
Riley grabbed her phone and left the court room, there goes one of my witnesses.

Maya
My mouth dropped open as Riley ran from the court room. I never thought she could be this disloyal to her friends, especially Farkle. I looked at the stand, Farkle had his shoulders slumped down in defeat. My eyes shifted to Mrs.Minkus, she leaned back in her seat satisfied. I can't let this happen.
"Farkle is telling the truth."
I claimed loudly as I stood up.
Wait what am I doing? I don't have proof!
"And how is that Miss Hart?"
I gulped, lawyers are terrifying.
"Um well.... One day when I was in school with him he had his hand wrapped up. A-and I called it a mummy hand."
I cracked a smile at the memory.
"Farkle is an honest kid. He wouldn't lie about something this serious."
The judge gave me a smile.
"How ya doing Maya?"
I smiled.
"I'm good Evelyn."
(A/N: Aka this is crazy hat lady)
The judge banged her gavel.
"Jennifer Minkus is sentenced to 1 more year in prison. Case closed."
Everyone on Farkle's side jumped up happily. I ran to hug Farkle.
"Farkle isn't this great?!"
The judge silenced is for a moment.
"Farkle will get his new foster home next week."
Everyone stopped cheering, Farkle looked up horrified.
"What?!"
The judge shrugged and left.
"Farkle wait!-"
It was too late he was already storming out of the courthouse, going God knows where doing God knows what.
