PLEASE PLEASE READ THE AUTHORS NOTE AT THE END.

Riley
It's the day before homecoming and Charlie still hasn't mentioned it.
I quietly walked to my locker, surveying the halls. No sign of him yet.
"Hey Riley."
I jumped a little and turned around.
"Farkle. Hey....buddy."
This couldn't be more awkward. After he basically told me he didn't like me yesterday, I haven't been able to stop thinking about him.
"Has um Charlie asked you to the dance yet?"
I shook my head slowly.
"No, but it's fine. He will."
"Yeah, I'm glad I didn't get hung up on asking you. Since homecoming is when I get my foster home, you know big deal."
I smiled, he's so strong.
"Walk to class?"
He nodded and we walked down the halls, this should attract Charlie's attention.

Maya
I tapped my pencil against my desk, anxious for class to start.
"I need your help."
Lana stated as she sat next to me.
Oh this should be fun.
"May I help you?"
"Yes. I know you're friends with Charlie and he's the only guy in school who hasn't even glanced at me as a potential date."
"Oh you poor thing, one guy out of hundreds won't date you."
She rolled her eyes.
"I know Riley likes him and- and that's not okay. You know what to do."
"Riley and Charlie go way back. You don't stand a chance Lana."
She shrugged.
"I have my ways."
I didn't say anything after that because I know she's right.

Riley
I looked around the lunch room, Charlie is nowhere to be seen.
I decided to go to the library.
I walked through the big oak doors and took a long, deep breath.
This is my happy place.
"Oh. You're here."
I looked behind a bookshelf and standing there was none other than Charlie.
"Have you been avoiding me?"
He shrugged, but I think I saw his head nod.
"I know Farkle wants to ask you to homecoming and I'm sick of all your friends hating me."
"No. No. I wanna go with you! Farkle is dealing with other stuff, I want you Charlie."
He smiled and hugged me, his arms still felt tense.
"Then I'll pick you up at 8 tomorrow."
I smiled and nodded.
He looked down at my tray of food.
"But maybe save the fattening food for a time when you don't have to fit into a skin tight dress."
"Oh I wasn't gonna eat- I mean yeah okay."
Charlie grabbed the tray and threw it out.
"There all gone. See you tomorrow?"
I waved at him as he walked out.
Maybe Maya was right.

OHHHHHHH What was Maya right about??
