You: Why don't you speak some other language instead of English?
Person 1: What do you mean? I live in the US, I speak English.
You: I mean why can't you speak Mandarin or something so that I don't have to pretend to listen? It would be so much easier to just be able to truly ignore you instead of having to pretend I'm listening. Really, I'm sure they teach other languages at this school.
