'I can't believe that he was at the house,' Ecie said as she stood in the bathroom she shared with her sister. 'I can't believe that you heard him and mom doing it.'
'Well I can't believe that he came into the store and you ran away from him,' Esme said. 'That would have been the perfect time to talk to him.'
'What would have happened if he had recognized me from somewhere? What would I have done then?'
Esme shrugged.
'Anyway,' Ecie said. 'You should have opened mom's bedroom door "accidently". That would have been funny.'
'That would have been gross,' Esme pretended to gag. 'I don't want to see mom like that. It's disgusting.'
'She saw you and Taylor,' Ecie shrugged. 'You guys would have been even.'
'It would have been mean,' Esme said. 'Eric is mom's first boyfriend in like forever. She would have been so embarrassed.'
'You were...'
'Girls?' Sofie said.
'Yeah mom?'
'There's somebody I'd like you to meet. Do you think you could come down?'
'Sure mom.'
Esme and Ecie followed their mom out of their bathroom and down to the living room where a tall man with tanned skin, a model's face and a thicker beard, stood looking at some photos that sat on their mantelpiece.
'This is Eric and he is my boyfriend.'
Eric turned round and smiled at them warmly. 'Good evening girls.'
Esme and Ecie looked at each other then smiled back at Eric awkwardly.
