Ecie sat down in a padded leather chair, in a dark green Chinti and Parker organic cotton t-shirt dress and a pair of black Elizabeth and James black leather lace up boots. She put her brown Alexander Wang Rocco bag on the floor by her feet then sat back as she looked at Carole.
'So,' Carole smiled. 'What things did you come up with for your little assignment?'
'Well,' Ecie cleared her throat. 'I thought that perhaps some of the reasons why I cheat is because I'm so busy with everything, each guy just fits in so perfectly with what I'm doing. In the instance with Langley and Ellis; Langley would come to the store during the day and we had school together, but I was seeing Ellis at night and over the weekends.'
'That's good,' Carole nodded jotting something down in her notepad. 'Did you come up with anything else?'
Ecie bent down and looked through her bag for a sheet of paper. Pulling it out of her bag, she sat back and unfolded it.
'Wow,' Carole said. 'It looks like you've got quite a list there.'
'Yeah,' Ecie laughed nervously. She looked at the piece of paper then started reading. 'I'm lazy and easily distracted; I don't particularly like confrontation, it's easy for me to do, escape from my current situation, accidental, unhappiness and my lack of commitment.'
Carole nodded. 'Why don't you explain some of them to me?'
'Okay,' Ecie replied. 'I'm lazy and easily distracted because when I'm with someone, you could say that I get a little bored of them and someone else comes along in my life. I get distracted by this new person and sort of forget to end things with my current boyfriend. I don't do it on purpose or anything, it all just sort of happens and before I know it, I'm cheating.'
'Is this what happened when you were dating Grayson last year?' Carole asked. 'Denis walked back into your life and you forgot about Grayson?'
'Kind of,' Ecie replied. 'I wasn't really even one hundred percent interested in Grayson. I only went out with him because he was so insistent about it and I thought that if I did, he might help me get over Denis and the guilt I felt for sleeping with Ellis in the first place.'
'Okay then,' Carole said. 'So when you say you don't like confrontation, does this link into not telling Grayson that you didn't want to be with him?'
Ecie nodded. 'I felt so bad when I did tell him. I just wanted him to be happy, even though I was really distracted with Denis.'
'So how did you feel when you found out about his real intentions?'
'I felt used and dirty,' Ecie replied. 'I kind of hated Denis because I felt that it was his fault for what he and Ellis did to me. But at the same time, I don't blame Grayson for what he did. I kind of deserve it for cheating on him with Denis in the first place.'
'So what Grayson did was right?'
'No,' Ecie replied. 'It was mean and a really jerky thing to do, but I'm just saying that in terms of karma it kind of makes sense.'
'It's easy for you to do?' Carole asked writing.
'Like what I said before,' Ecie replied. 'It always seems to fit in so well with my lifestyle. I could see Denis because he was in college and he was living close to me. Grayson and I went to school together and because I'm a cheerleader and he's on the football team, it meant that we saw each other quite a bit.'
'Apart from outside of school?'
'Yeah,' Ecie replied guiltily. 'I didn't return any of his calls because I wanted to block him out and I wanted to get back together with Denis.'
