I stand there in shock. How could it be HER? And what happened to Midnight?!?
"Hello... Dash," Scarlett draws out, smirking at me. "Long time no see," she narrows her eyes. I just keep standing there like an idiot. Dash! MOVE YOUR BUTT!!!
"Didn't think you'd be coming back for round two," I reply, giving her a massively unhappy glare. My friends glance at each other, worried.
"Excuuuuuuuse me," Twi grins, grabbing my arm in a death grip and pulling me to the side. I continue watching every move Scarlett does as Twi talks. "DASH!" She snaps her fingers in front of my face.
"What?" I ask, annoyed as I keep looking at Scarlett.
"What's the deal with her? What do you mean by round TWO?!?" Twi asks.
"She's BIIIG trouble. Think of Catanya but worse. They are twins, and Scarlett is spell-proof. She does MAD damage! For future reference, her nails are like the claws of a griffon and she plays dirty," I say without removing my glance. Twi blinks far a second before turning around.
"Guys, I have something to tell you!!!" She yells and runs over to the table where Unicity is sitting. Just as I'm about to do something, my phone buzzes in my pocket. Ugh, SERIOUSLY?!? I'm busy! I grab my phone and pick up.
"Hello?" I ask, my voice giving off the hint that I'm obviously annoyed."Um, hi... Dash? There's something you should know about Scarlett..." Preston sighs. Wait, what? He knows?!? "Yeah, you see... She is, errrrr... Kinda... Sort of... Maybe... My ex?" He asks the last part. I freeze.
"Ummm okay...." What the -? How did they-? UGH forget it. "Well, thanks for letting me know, I guess, but I really need to go. Talktoyoulaterbye!" I rush and throw my phone into my backpack once I hang up. He finds the WORST times to call. It doesn't help that Scarlett is glaring at me either. I can't get around that fact that she and Catanya are twins, though! They never looked anything alike...
-Flashback-
I was sitting there, my back against a tree. My soccer ball was in my lap, and I watched in sadness as the team played without me. The teacher didn't want me to play because she thought I was too good for a little kid, even if it was all legit. I'd always been a great player, but I guess she hadn't liked that. A girl approached me, and I looked up. Scarlett. She sat next to me.
'Hey Dashie!' she grinned.
'Hey Scarly!' I smiled back. We gave each other our signature hand shake - tap fists twice, pull back and give a high five. Clap other hands below that, and move both hands down quickly before making a whooshing noise and pulling away. Funny face, then jazz hands. Surprisingly, no one else knew how to do it. I giggle and we both give each other a hug.
'So, whatcha been up to lately?' She asks.
'Just watching the team play without me,' I sigh, looking to the ground as tears form in my eyes. Scarlett frowns.
'But you're the best player there! I mean, I know I'm great also, but you're the BEST! If you don't play we'd lose!' She exclaims, a sad expression on her face.
'Yeah, I know,' I wistfully look up to the sky. 'Hey, do you ever wish you could fly? I'd love to just escape from life and let the clouds surround me, ya know?' She nods.
'Exactly! You could just lose your worries up there, and the view would be great. We could go anywhere!' She sighs. 'Hey, that could looks like a star!' I look to where she points.
'Cool! Hey, let's make a pact - best friends forever!' I smile.
'Best friends today, tomorrow, and always!' We both vow. For a moment, the cloud seems to shimmer with a glow, but it must be my imagination.
