(A Few Days Later) When my eyes open, I can't see anything. Just pink. Then it speaks.
"HEEYYYYYY DASH!!!" Agh! I sit up immediately, waiting to fully wake up before asking what the heck was going on.
"Oh, I just wanted to see if you were awake. Now that you are, wanna PARTY?!?!?" Peony? Really? Ugghhhh.... not again! Well, I didn't want sleep that badly anyway. When I look at the clock, it's about 4:30 in the morning. Not cool, man. NOT cool. Well, I guess I should be up anyway. The soccer tryouts are today, and I certainly don't want to be late. Peony bounces out of my room and down the hall. I can hear the rest of my friends get up too. Twi walks into my room, groaning while she rubs her eyes.
"What time is it?" she asks. Then she sees the clock. "Oh. I'm going back to bed." I turn off the light and do the same. I have to get up in an hour anyway....
-----
The alarm goes off, making me jump. I groan, and fall out of bed. It only takes a few minutes to get dressed, then I head to the kitchen. My breakfast is my usual - oat cereal with peach yogurt and apple juice. The apple juice could be substituted for milk. In this case, it was. I needed the extra calcium for today's tryouts. Surprisingly, I look up to see my friends coming into the room, each carrying a sports bag.
"I - I - What are you doing here?" I ask. "I thought you were all still sleeping!" Twi is the only one to speak.
"We didn't play soccer with you a few days ago because we didn't want you to see how good we were getting," Twi says with a grin. Does this - does this mean what I think it does? DOES IT?!?!?
"That's right, Dash. We're trying out too!" I blink, then smile as much as anyone possibly can without breaking their jaw.
"EEEEEEEE!!!!" I squeal as I bombard them with hugs. "You guys are the BEST!!! Now, you might want to get something to eat," I add. They all agree (well, duh. It IS breakfast. Who would purposely pass that up?) and grab bowls of cereal. One thing that we can always agree on is the taste of oat cereal. Yum! By the time we've all finished, it is about 6:30. Shoot!
"Come on, guys! We've got to go! We don't want to be late for TRYOUTS, now do we?" I sigh. By the smirks on their faces, I'm guessing the answer is no. We all run out the door - and I can see they aren't terribly excited to walk the whole way.
"Come on, guys, it'll be fine! Now really, we have to get going." I say as I glance behind me. You know, it would just be sooooo much easier to fly there. I also wouldn't have to get up as early. Hey - don't judge. When Peony wakes you up in the middle of the night, you'd be thinking the same thing. Believe me - it isn't fun. Well, we are almost there. Wait. Where is everyone else? Let me see - yup. They are way behind me. I sigh and wait for them. I can stand being late for practice, but TRYOUTS? Uhhh... no. That'll guarantee you're not on the team. When I look at some of the students practicing, they, honestly, look terrible. Their footing is off, they stop mid kick, and they couldn't get a goal to save their life. Well, I guess that's a good thing. That way, there isn't much compititon. Well, most of the players aren't good. I'm actually surprised to see that the most popular boy in school - Bolt - is trying out. I thought he was all about bossing people around and 'forgetting' to do his homework. Well, he is good in that part. Oh, by that, I mean he actually does it. You'd be surprised how many people don't these days. My friends finally catch up to me, and we head to the field.
-----
Well, tryouts are over. I must say, my friends must have practiced a LOT. They weren't bad - they were AWESOME!!! Oh, and Bolt was fine. It'd be funny if he actually made the team. Heh, that'd be the day. I can see it now, the front page of the school newspaper - Annoying Popular Guy The First Soccer Player. I've got to stop making myself laugh, but that was too funny. Like I need luck - I'll make it for sure. Same with my friends. Him? He needs as much as he can get.
"Do you think I'll make it?" Twi asks while glancing at me.
"Uh, yeah! You were GREAT! I'd be reaallly surprised if you didn't!" I reply, making sure my friends knew it was the same for all of them. We make a great team, but now all we need to do is wait for the team list.
