Sky’s Flashback
“1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10! Ready'er not here I come!” I heard Dylan shout. I climbed up super duper high up in the big oak tree far from the playground, he’d never find me. We was playing hide 'n seek. I was really, really up high. I reached for another branch even higher up, I couldn’t reach it, I tried to stand up to get it. But my foot slipped, I thought I was gunna to die when I hit the ground, but somebody else in the tree caught my wrist. I didn’t even see him there when I climbed up. He said, “Don’t worry, I won't let you fall.” And he pulled me up. I said, “Thanks!” He told me, “I’m Ross, what’s your name?” I said, “I'm Skylar.” Then I looked down, I saw Dylan at the foot of the tree, “Sky, you can't hide furever.” I put my finger on my lips and said, “Shh.” to Ross. He nodded. He smiled and whispered, “It was nice to meet you Skylar.” He climbed down from the tree, oh no he’s going to give me away! Dylan turned to him, “ Have you seen a girl, six 'ears old, brown hair, ‘bout my height.” Ross pointed back to the park, “Yeah she was layin' on her stomach under the slide over there.” Dylan said, “Thanks dude!” and ran off. I climbed down from the tree and said, “Double thanks.” He laughed, “No problem. Who are you here with? I don’t see anyone watching you. Like, my mom’s just over there with my brothers and sister.” He pointed to a mom. She was purty, she look'd real mom-like. I said, “Oh, no one, I live there.” I pointed at the orphanage. His smile went away, “But that’s the orphanage.” I nodded and said, “I know.” He said, “Oh, I’m sorry. Wait, so you can leave whenever you want to?” I said, “Pretty much, my window opens right up to the fire escape, so I just climb down any time I want to leave.” He said, “Oh, that’s really cool. I’m coming back to the park because my brother Rocky has a soccer game on Thursday. You should come back again then. I’m gonna be here at 3:30.” I said, “Then I will too.” He said, "Is that your boyfriend?" I said, "Eww, no, boys are gross." He said, "No, I'm not gross." I said, "Don't you pick your nose. Dylan does that." He said, "I don't." I said, "Then I guess you're not gross." I said, "It's my birthday today. I'm six now." He said, "I'm six too. And for the record, I don't think you're gross." And he ran off to his mom.
