Friday

"Hey." I stared at him until I ended up cringing in disgust.

Droney looked up from the math quizzes he was checking, "What?" He raised a brow, giving me a look through the thin sheet of glass between our desks.

"What happens at the annual gathering-slash-seminar?" I went straight to the point, not wanting to lengthen our conversation.

"Oh, right." He muttered to himself, focusing back on his work, "That's next week."

"I didn't ask when it will be held." I flatly said, slightly annoyed.

"Aren't you full of sass . . ." He rolled his eyes, "The changes in the education system are mostly explained and then we get to 'socialize' with the other professors." He finally gave me the answer I wanted, "But since the gathering was postponed for like three months, it's pretty much pointless since every school know the changes by now. They probably went along with it since it's kind of a ceremony for another great school year. Yipee . . ." He unenthusiastically said, sighing.

"Then, why is the college wasting time with it?" I complained, dreading the fact that I have to attend.

"I just said it's like a ceremony for us. The gathering has been happening for like a decade now. It'd be shitty to skip it after all that time." He frowned, "But yeah, it's a total waste of time."

"You and Byron were the representatives last year, right?" I asked, curious. I wonder how that went . . .

"Pphhp! Yeah." He made a sound as he scowled in distaste at the thought of it, "Even the trip was boring . . . I hate that guy." He shook his head.

"Why? What happened?" I grew extremely interested as I laid my elbows on my desk.

"Nothing." He gave me a blank look, "Abso-fucking-lutely nothing." He deadpanned, "He wouldn't even answer when I ask him something, that douche."

"Well, you can't blame him." I shrugged, "I'd do the same, to be honest."

He gave me an emotionless gaze, "You're a scorned woman."

"Thanks." I sarcastically smiled before turning serious once more, "So, how long does the seminar take?"

"Depends on what they'll discuss, but last year, around four hours." He mumbled, compiling the quizzes he was done with, "Oh, if the seminar takes too long, you can stay overnight. The college hosting will manage everything."

I paused, my eyes slowly widening at the words that left his mouth, "Overnight." I repeated, "Overnight?"

"Y-Yeah . . ." He gave me a look, seemingly weirded out, "It depends though. This year, I think it'll be over quick since there's no reason for them to keep blabbing about the changes 'cause the colleges already know for sure."

"What about last year?" I kept my gaze fixated on him as if forgetting how to blink.

"Well, we stayed overnight. Not because it took too long, I just didn't want to go back to work and forced that guy too stay too." Droney referred to Byron, "I didn't enjoy it though. Apparently 'socializing' with the other professors is just awesome." He said with irritation.

"Huh?" I mumbled.

"Yeah . . . Socializing and getting along with the others is really great." He rolled his eyes.

"I'm not getting it." I frowned, "Why are you talking like that? Am I missing something?"

He glanced at me before putting his pen down, "Listen, those people from other colleges," He gave me a serious look, "They're assholes."
