Tim's POV

Peeking through the window, I watched as Brian and Byron walked away, heading to Byron's house and all because I forgot to stock up on bleach. I feel stupid. Well, we could use other household cleaning stuff that we've tried in the past, but bleach had always been the better and cheaper option.

They both seem to be walking fine which makes me glad. It's weird that all of Byron's injuries are suddenly gone and he has no idea how. I mean, sure, his body could've healed itself while he was unconscious, but it's unusual since he's been on manual mode for a few days now.

It makes me relieved that he's okay, but I can't shake off the strangeness for some reason.

I stepped away from the window and made sure that the curtains properly covered it, but not before I checked if any of my neighbors' lights were on. It seems everyone is asleep. One of the good points in the town is that most people here are morning people which means we have less to worry about at night.

As I turned around and scanned the living room, my white mask near the staircase caught my eye. I went over to pick it up and remembered that Brian also took his mask off in the middle of the fight. Right . . . the kid managed to swipe my mask away while I tried to restrain him. I need to find a more secure way to wear my mask . . . It could have been anyone, and they would've seen my face.

Before him, no one had ever taken our masks off.

I saw Brian's mask near the pile of newspapers, around where he first collapsed after his leg got struck. I picked it up as well and studied it, but it's hard to find traces of blood on it since it's made of a black matieral and the dots for the eyes and the cartoonish frown on it is red.

I held both of our masks in my hands. His black ski mask and my white mask with black eyes and lips. Mine had always been easier to wear than Brian's and he always complained about it.

Mine is made of a hard type of plastic and had a stretchable band on each end, I could easily put it on like others would with a normal Halloween mask. Brian has to put his mask over his head completely, concealing his hair and neck as well though. Sometimes, he finds it hard to breath with it too. His is made of actual cloth unlike mine.

We have no choice about the owners of each masks. It's just how it was assigned to us. It's weird how we came across the masks . . .

We found it in the hideout, among the other things we found there like the yellow jacket I'd wear with the white mask. The masks were stored carefully inside the hideout, along with a note on each of them. The black mask with the red accents had a sticky note on it with Brian's name and the white mask had my name on it.

The reason Byron's dad left it for Brian and I . . . well, we're not completely sure yet, but the masks served us well, concealing our identities when we go out to 'help' Byron with his curse.
