Chapter 22: Fall Back In Line or Love?

Nag lakihan ang mga mata ko, ano ba yan, Maine.

"Well?" Sabi ni Alden na naghihintay ng sagot.

I rubbed my forehead and looked around to find an answer, what to do... what to do.

He continuously looked at me with an intimidating face, "Ano?"

With that said, something within me snapped, "Alden umalis ka dyan!"

Nagulat yata si Alden sa sinabi ko, pati ako nagulat sa sarili ko pero I know in my mind that what I'm doing is theright thing to do. "Ano sabi mo?" He said in a slightly raised voice.

Napalunok ako sa takot. "Ang sabi ko," kinabahan nanaman ako pero hindi ko siya hahayaan na guluhin ang ginagawa namin ngayon. "Ang sabi ko, umalis ka dyan hindi mo ba nakikita na may pila sir?"

"Pila?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Maine?"

"Sir, inuulit ko po, may pila." Tinuro ko kung saan nagsisimula yung pila, "Ilang minuto na pong naghihintay ang mga tao sa pila, and for all I know wala po kaming special treatment policy sa business namin." There was a pause between us but of us caught off gaurd by the words that came out of my mouth. "Kaya please... Go back behind the line." I sarcastically said and with a smile on my face.

He was astonished by my audacity but he did what I said, he moved back behind the line.

Wow Maine ang gutsy mo ahh... Nagawa mo yun?

I then asked the next customer in line to come to the register, "sorry for the inconvenience, hello po! Welcome to Lla's Pandesalan what will it be today?"

Kaya balik ulit kami sa business ng team, si Alden nakikita ko unti-unting palapit ng palapit sa register. Maasar nga, I started calling him to grab his attention, "psst, psst!" Nung nakuha ko yung atensyon nya nagpabebe wave ako sa kanya.

Nung nakita kong masnapikon yung itsura nya, natawa ako. "Ang cute pala nya pagnagagalit."

"Ano sabi mo Maine?" Tanong ni Patricia.

"Ha, wala!" Pa inosente kong sabi. Uy... Maine, naririnig ba kita ng tama, cute?

Nung time na ni Alden para lumapit sa register pinilit ko ang sarili ko maging cool, hindi 'to panic time. "Hello po, welcome to Lola's Pande-"

Alden interrupts my usual greeting,"Maine!" he yells at me at the same time getting everyone's attention. "Maine, pwede bang magusap tayo sa likod?" He whispers his anger to maintain order in the bakery.

But I continued on with my charade and acted like he wasn't anyone of importance, "I'm sorry sir, but I'm afraid you have to deal with my manager if you have any problems." I smiled waiting for him to respond.

"But I am your manager!" He pointed at his chest to emphasis his authority, "Maine Mendoza, I am asking yo-"

"I'm afraid that my manager, Mr. Richards is at a different branch at the moment. If you have any question please contact this number." I handed him his own calling card we were provided incase there was an emergency in the store.

He crushes the card I handed him, "Mendoza, maguusap tayo mamaya."

He then turns around and walks towards the doors, "thank you and please come again." I waved at him goodbye.

"Grabe ka, I can't imagine kung bakit mo kailangan gawin yun."

"Eh kasi nga," I exhaled while all five of us cleaned the main area, "ang busy busy kanina alangan naman na maging mabagal ang service natin." I explained.
