Troye hates a lot of things. It's not that he's a particularly hateful person, he just has to many pet peeves. Such things as, slow walkers.
Early mornings
Easter
The ending to his favorite tv shows
Sun bathing without clothes on (he's very insecure)
and most importantly, the fear of being exactly like everyone else.
Troye has always been an obedient kid, no matter what he was told or what was demanded of him he would comply.
He would fall in line with the rest of the kids at his Jewish school with the same uniform and same plain way of thinking, no matter how much he really hated it.
But he couldn't be different, his parents would be shamed, his siblings, they'd be the laughing stock of Perth if Troye were to do something as simple as wearing pink socks or rolling up the cuffs of his jeans.
So when the Mellets moved to America at the beginning of freshmen year Troye couldn't be happier that he could finally express himself.
The first day of school consisted of a pastel pink skirt, white jumper, and a group of new friends who didn't threaten to murk him for his outfit choice.
And now as a senior, as he watches his best friends laugh over simple banter, he can't be happier. - As lunch rolls around Troye makes his way to the outside patio where his group will be waiting, but he doesn't make it to the door before a voice is calling him back.
It's a monotone voice, an ordinary one, and if there's on thing Troye hates it's anyone and everything ordinary.
His suspicions are confirmed when he sees the boy.
A boy with ordinary brown hair and ordinary clothes. A boy that's short, that's exactly like everyone else. Troye internally sighs.
"Hey! I'm Connor."
What an ordinary name for an ordinary boy, Troye thinks.
"Troye." they shake hands and Troye prays that this boys averageness isn't contagious.
"I've seen you for like, four years now but never worked up the courage to say hi." Connor says bashfully and Troye should of found it cute but he's to focused on his eyes.
Because a boy this boring shouldn't have eyes this green.
"I'm literally the least intimating thing in this entire establishment." Troye says plainly and Connor chuckles. Troye decides that that chuckle sounds like every other chuckles he's heard and that for some reason he likes it.
A content smile graces the boys lips, lips Troye has seen 100 times before on a thousand different people, but he can't help but feel this one is slightly different. - It's been four months and Troye can't help but panic, because despite his hatred for such a thing, he can't help but fall in love with a someone so plain he's almost nonexistent.
Connor is the most boring and average guy Troye has ever met, and yet he can't get enough.
The only difference is that while everyone else's ordinary was annoying and simple, Connors was calm, comforting, relaxed.
He doesn't worry over what he wears or who he talks too. He just doesn't care, he's fine with being nothing but normal, and Troye finds it peaceful when he usual finds it stupid and it probably has something to do with the little fluff in Connors hair.
When they hold hands, Troye doesn't feel like he's on fire like people say your supposed to. A little tingle there, a drip of sweat here, but nothing drastic.
And he loves it.
Connor is like his favorite pair of chucks. Simple, worn by everybody who attempts to be "trend setters" and "fashionable". But at the same time, comforting, like returning from a long trip or reentering your comfort zone after a strange new experience.
Troye likes to sky dive, and sometimes he goes rollerblading into oceans, and once he swam with sharks, but the best part about these experiences is knowing that Connors going to be there when he's done with his latest adventure.
In Connors mind, they have forever to try all these things and be anybody, and right now he wants to relax and be nothing but nobody. But he understands Troyes restlessness and loves him all the same.
Polar opposites, a perfect pair.
And Troyes decides that Connors not ordinary but normal and that maybe 'ordinary' and 'normal' are two different things. That maybe not all things plain are synonyms to each other.
So Troye continues to hold Connors hand and he continues to be anything but ordinary, because Troyes seen ordinary and he's seen normal.
And it turns out he likes normal.
But not ordinary, oh definitely not.
He hates that. - a/n
