Fate (Rhett and Link fanfic)

Link goes home to California. He gets on the plane and thinks about everything the whole way home. He keeps thinking the entire trip. He just needs to see his wife and then his choice will be easy. He'll pick her. He knows he will. He's known Christy since college. There's no way that coffee and a kiss from a young fan could break that bond. That's about 18 years of a relationship and love. Nothing could break that.

​When Link gets back in LA he is immediately greeted by Christy and the kids at the gate. He is so happy to see them all. He missed them. He was immediately mauled by his children and once they say their hellos, Christy comes up and gives him a hug and a kiss. This kiss was different from the other kisses that he usually gets from his wife.

It was filled with regret and guilt. Not love and passion like he was used to. Link could tell something wasn't right. When they got home he knew he had to do something about it. Once everyone was home again and the children were minding their own business and playing he thought to himself "this is my chance." He asked her what was wrong.

​Christy told Link that she did something terrible and she really regretted it. He wondered what she could've done. He wondered what she could be so upset about. She then told him that she had an affair. It was unintentional but he didn't believe it.

Link couldn't believe anything after that. He couldn't trust her. He started to get really mad. He asked her "how could you knowingly have an affair and say that it was unintentional?" "I don't know! I never meant for anything to happen. I feel horrible. Please believe me Link!" He responded simply "I can't." She started to cry and said "I'm sorry." "You should be" he whispered loud enough so that only she could hear. He looked at her as she started to cry and then he left.

​After that argument he's furious. His face is beet red with anger and frustration. He has to do something because there's no way he could face Christy without wanting to hurt her. The only thing he can do is go blow off steam. He goes out for a walk and thinks about a lot of things. He thought Christy loved him. Obviously he was mistaken.

He wondered why she would do that to him. How was it even possible? They had three children. What were they doing while she was having this affair? Where were they? All of these questions and thoughts were in his head but the big question that kept coming back was "how could she do this to me?"

​He walked around for a little while longer and calmed himself down. He then decided that he had to talk to somebody else. He wanted to think of one person he could text that wouldn't get mad at him. He couldn't text Rhett yet because he didn't want to hear any nagging or yelling from him. He couldn't text any of the crew because they didn't really know him that well.

The only person he could really think of texting was Kate. So he decided to see how she was doing since he left. He thought "she may be a fan but she is the only person who won't get mad at me right now." He couldn't tell her what happened with his wife just yet. He needed to figure out what was going on first. Then if something was to happen, he might tell her.
