Fate (Rhett and Link fanfic)

The mess

Link said goodbye to Kate. He thought he heard her say that she loved him right as he was hanging up. He then thought "wow. She loves me." For some reason this made him happy. It warmed his heart knowing there was someone out there that he actually liked (and wasn't creeped out by) who loved him. He had no idea what that could mean or why he even felt that way.

He usually only got that feeling from being with Christy but he still has to figure that mess out. He then thinks about Kate again and gets really confused. Thoughts of Kate relax him and calm him down but he still is really confused. Link now realizes that he has to talk to somebody who really gets him: Rhett. He usually knows what's best and is his best friend after all, so now Link has no other options.

​ Link calls Rhett and talks to him about everything. He tells Rhett about what happened with his wife, and the phone call with Kate. He even told Rhett what Kate said as he was hanging up. "Man, she's just a crazy obsessed fan girl" was his response to that. "Who even started that conversation in the first place?" he asked. "Technically me, but she called me" said Link. "And you picked up? Why would you do that?" Rhett asked confused. "I needed someone to talk to who wasn't going to judge what I was doing or saying" Link replied.

R: "Look man, I'm only judging you because you're like my brother and I love you like a brother."

L: "I know you are and I know you do. You are the best friend a guy could ask for man. So what do you think I should do about the whole Christy situation?"

R: "I'm not gonna try and persuade you to go a certain way but I'm just gonna say to do what you feel is right dude."

L: "I really don't wanna hurt anyone."

R: "If you do what I think you're gonna do, then you made a good decision."

L: "Alright, I gotta do some thinking."

R: "Alright. I'll be here if you need to talk."

L: "Thanks man."

​Link now knows that he can talk to Rhett about anything, even if he doesn't want to. He has ha lot of thinking to do now. When he gets home from being out, he goes into his bedroom and tries to talk to Christy again.

He is much calmer at this point so he can go talk to her without steam coming out of his ears. He then calmly talks to Christy and tells her everything (and I mean everything) that happened on his trip to New York. She understood, considering what she did which really surprised Link.

They have decided to split up because of what happened. They both still love each other but they think it would be best if they do this until both of them figure things out. With this in mind and a clear conscience, Link now has the chance to go after Kate. However, he has to take care of some essentials before he decides to do that. He has to figure out where to live and what to even say to her. He thinks to himself "I guess I can always stay at the studio. There are a few couches in the building anyway. Yeah, I'll do that until I figure everything out."
