Something Special

Sorry I haven't updated this story in a while I've been busy with school and work. I don't know if this chapter is any good. It took me a while to write and I'm not sure I like the final result but let me know what you think in the comments below.

A few weeks have passed and Link and Kate have gone to North Carolina to meet Link's mom and dad. She heard so many stories about them and was excited to meet them. As far as Kate can tell Link hasn't said much about her because he wanted it to be a surprise. He did tell his mother about Christy though. So that way she wouldn't be too worried to not see her or the kids. When Link and Kate get to his mom's house, Kate is greeted with open arms by Link's mom, Sue. Kate and Sue seem to get along well which is good for Link. They spend a couple of days at her house and then they go see his father. He is a little bit tougher to please but Kate seems to think that he likes her. He hasn't said anything bad about her to Link so she takes that as a good sign.

A few days after they go see Link's father, it turns out to be Kate's birthday! She told Link once a long time ago but didn't think he remembered. She wasn't going to be too disappointed if he forgot. It was no big deal to her. Little did she know that Link had something big planned for that night.

Link had a plan to take Kate out to dinner. So they both say goodbye to his father and then go to dinner. Link had reservations for a fancy restaurant. When they got there, they ordered their food. Link went to the men's room but little did Kate know that he went to go talk to the waiter and tell him that he wanted to do something special for her birthday. When he comes back to the table, they eat their dinner. Then Link orders dessert. He orders a chocolate layer cake with vanilla ice cream. It was Kate's favorite dessert.

When the dessert comes, the waiter brings the dessert with a candle in the piece of cake. He then lights it and Link sings happy birthday to her. Kate blushes as Link is singing to her. He tells her to make a wish. She nods her head and then closes her eyes to make a wish.

While this is going on Link gets a little present out of his jacket pocket. He puts it on the table right before she blows the candle out. When she opens her eyes she sees the present and smiles. Link says "what'd ya wish for?"

"I'm not telling you" she replied.

"Why not?"

"Because then it might not come true."

"Well ok then miss superstitious."

Kate then sticks her tongue out at Link, Link does it back to mock her and they both laugh at their childish sides. They then split her cake. Then Kate reaches for the present but Link stops her. He hands her a little card. "Read this first" he tells Kate. So she opens the card to read it. When she starts reading the card she begins to tear up. The card read:

My Kate,

From the moment I first ran into you I have felt something amazing. Love. I knew it from that moment when we first kissed and everything around us became hazy and the only thing in focus was us. I realized at that first time that you are the only person I am supposed to kiss for the rest of my life. For one moment I got this amazing gift. I wanted to laugh and cry all at the same time because I feel so lucky that I found it. I found you. I am so scared that it will go away.....

To ensure that it doesn't and I don't lose you, I have to give this to you on your birthday because I love you and I really don't want to wait any longer.

When Kate is done reading the card, she looks at Link with tears in her eyes from reading the card. He has already unwrapped the little present. He then opens the box that contained the present and turned it around so she could see it.

He then nervously goes down on one knee and asks her the most important question of the evening.

 "Will you marry me?"
