Y/n pov

As you made my way down the rows and rows of books, you brush your fingers along the bindings. The smooth hardback, vintage, covers gliding along your fingers with such grace until you find the one you want.

Your thoughts are interrupted with a voice you dread hearing. The voice you hear every night in your nightmares. The voice that makes you shudder with you think of who it belongs to.

"Hey nerd". Here we go again. You ignored him not wanting to deal with the pain today.

"Hey I'm talking to you".

"Yes, Hayes?", you say, picking one last book before making your way to the check-out.

"Why is your ugly ass here?", he asks standing behind you.

"Why do you think?", you say in a duh tone, whilst gathering your books and walking out the door.

"Don't get smart with me", he says harshly grabbing you wrist making you stop.

"Please just let me go home", you plead pulling your hand away from him.

"And why should I", he says grabbing your wrist again yanking you towards him.

"Hayes I can't do this anymore", you say on the verge of tears,"I can't just stand here and let you push me around. I go home and cry myself to sleep every night because of you. I can't stand looking at my reflection anymore. I can't look people in the eye. All because of you. But ya know, no matter how many times you push me down, no matter how many times you call me names. I always get back up. No matter how insecure you make me I will never show it. But what kills me is I don't know why you do it." You were glad you were outside and not inside, but people were starting to look your way.

You were now sobbing, clutching hold of your books. As you look up you see Hayes on the verge of tears, but those quickly disappear when he hears the last sentence. Now his eyes showed nothing but anger.

"Bullshit", he says gripping your wrist tighter," you do know why. You left me when I needed you most".

You give him a confused and he continues.

"You weren't there when my mom died. You didn't answer my text. You didn't return my calls", he said now crying.

"I couldn't. I was in a car crash and my phone and a few bones broke, so I couldn't get to the phone. But you wouldn't know because you never came around", you said crying.

He looked into you eyes with sorrow and guilt.

" I'm sorry", he said loosening the grip on your wrist. You take your wrist out if his hands and wrap your arms around his neck.

"I'm sorry too, I didn't know about your mom", you say into his shoulder.

"No it's my fault. I didn't tell you in person and I shouldnt have bullied you and I feel absolutely terrible", he said grabbing you tighter.

"It's okay. Can we be friends again though. I miss you", you say pulling away from the hug.

"Of course. I missed you more than anything", he said looking into your eyes.

"Good", you say walking home. But Hayes had other plans.

He ran up behind you and grabbed your books from your hands, carrying then the whole way to your house for you.

It was going to take you a very long time to trust him but your glad you had him now.
