Hi! My name is Maggie. I'm a little over 14 years old. I love reading. Some people say I read too much. My best friend, Paige Hood, hates to read but sometimes I convince her to read. And she loves it. If you couldn't tell I'm not popular. I was just a normal book nerd, living a normal life until a few months ago. Then everything changed.
I never expected this to happen. I would have never thought it was possible, but I will tell you the story of how it happened. From the beginning.
One day, a week before school ended, I was sitting at a cafe table waiting for Paige. I was reading my book and one of the mean girls walked up to me. And she just stared at me.
"What are you staring at?" I asked.
"Oh just someone who doesn't have a life."
"Ohhhh. So you're looking in a mirror." I retorted. She walked up to me and slapped the book out of my hand. Then she stomped on it.
"Give it up you'll never be popular. You're pathetic. All you do is read. It's just fictional. It will never come true." She said then stormed away.
I went home that day packed all my books in a box and put them in my closet. I went to sleep not knowing what would happen two days later."Mom. The bus is here." I yelled as I opened the door to walk across the street to my bus stop.
"Okay. Have a good day! Love you. Bye. Learn something!" She yelled.
"Never!" I yelled back.
When I got on the bus I went to my usual seat. Fifteen minutes later, the bus arrived at my school. I walked down to the cafe where we had to wait until 7:42. The perks of being an eighth grader.
"What's up, Nerd?" Paige said.
"Nothing much. You?" I asked.
"Well there are two new kids coming today. Remember Mrs. June told us yesterday. And apparently it's two boys." She did her boy dance.
"All yours, Buddy." I said sitting down.
"You judge before you see. Maybe–" She was cut off by a bunch of girls squealing.
The Preps, about twelve altogether, were standing around two guys. The best part was the guys had no interest in the Preps. Paige and I sit at a round purple table. Just the two of us. It's a pretty big table for just the two of us but we don't fit in. If anything we stand out.
"That was amazing. Preps getting what they deserve." Paige said. We get really happy when the people that exile us get what they deserve.
The two guys started to walk away from the Preps. I turned back to Paige who was listening to music now. So I sat there until a minute later when I heard a "Hi." I turned around to see who it was. It was the two new boys.
"Can we sit here with you?" The tall one said. I felt like I knew them.
"Sure." I said.
"Thanks." The shorter one said. He was the shorter of the two but about 5' 8", which made him four inches taller then me and two inches taller than Paige. Great I'm the short one. The other boy was about 5'10" or 5'11".
Paige was attentive now.
"Hi!" Paige said.
"Hey!" The two boys said in unison.
"My name is Percy..." the taller one said, " and this is Nico." He pointed to the shorter one.
One of the Preps walked up.
"You two boys kinda look alike." She flashed her best like-me smile.
Both the boys had black hair but that's where the similarities ended. The taller one had black hair, green eyes and was tan. He smiles a lot. And he seems very outgoing. The shorter one on the other hand had black hair, dark brown eyes, which are so dark they look black, and was pale. He didn't smile much and doesn't seem very outgoing.
"You shouldn't be sitting over here." The Prep said.
"And why not?" Nico said. It was the first time he talk since sitting down.
"Because these girls are lame. You should hang out with the popular kids." She said.
"You know what? You're right. Nico lets hang out with the popular kids." Percy said then turned around toward me and Paige. Nico did the same thing.
"Fine. Hang out with the lame kids. I don't know why you would want to anyways." She said.
"You want to know why?" Percy said.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because they are nice unlike you." He said.
She turned around and walked away confused, not knowing what to say. The bell rang.
"We sit here at lunch too." Paige told them. Then we parted ways until lunch. Off to homeroom for me.
