(A/N: Thank you you guys for every vote, comment, and read. I really appreciate it. And the song above is for later in the story. I changed the words a little bit to fit the story better. It well still be mostly the same. And the song is Soldatino by Paolo Bennet. Enjoy.)
Nico's Point of View
After our little fight, Maggie and I sat down and I told her the plan.
"Okay so. To get to the location of the Doors of Death we have to walk an hour. It would only take a half hour on the front roads but all the monsters take it. So we are going to stick to the back roads." I finished explaining.
"Okay. But before we go to bed, I'm going to make sure the coast is clear." She got up and went to the entrance and looked out.
She turned around and came back over to the bed. We laid down on the makeshift bed and tried to fall asleep. After three hours of neither of us falling asleep we decided to eat something to calm our nerves. I went over to the duffle bag and looked at the food that was left.
"Goldfish, Cheetos, or Peanut Butter?" I asked her, already knowing it would be peanut butter.
"Peanut Butter please." She said.
I grabbed the peanut butter, Cheetos, and a spoon. I walked back over to the bed and sat down handing Maggie the spoon and peanut butter. She thanked me and started eating some peanut butter. I ate some Cheetos. After we ate we tried to sleep again. After an hour I thought of an idea to make Maggie fall asleep.
"Maggie?"
"Yeah Nico?" She replied turning over as I sat up.
"Do you want me to sing you a song?" I asked hoping it would help her fall asleep.
"Yes please." She laid her head on my stomach.
"Okay."Close your eyes
I know what you see
The darkness is high
and you're in 10 feet deep
But you've survived
more terrible monsters than sleep
You know I will be here to tell you
to breatheTu se il mio Soldatino (You're my little soldier)
La ragione per qui vivo (The reason I live)
Non ti scordar di me (Don't forget me)
Io vegliero su di te (I'm watching over you)Stumbling lost
last choice of all that you meet
It's the cost
Of ruling those 'neath your feet
Paths you've crossed
And trust you're trying to keep
You're exhausted
List'ning for a voice that can't speakMa Maggie, Mio Caro (But Maggie, my dear)
Tu se il mio Soldatino (You're my little soldier)
La Ragione oh visuto (The reason I live)
Non Ti Scordar Di me (Don't forget me)
Io vegliero Su di te (I'm watching over you)So you run
Through Shadows you roam
Seams undone
by the love you thought you could own
But, he's just one
of many that you might call home
And maybe someday
The bitter will fade from your bones
Fade from your bo-ones, ohEri El mio Soldatino (You were my little soldier)
Ora la Mia Principessa scuro (Now my dark princess)
ma Anche per te, c'e una luce (But even for you, there is a light)
Che ad un'altra vita ti conduce (That leads to another life)
I looked down to see Maggie fast asleep. I laid back and closed my eyes. I listened to her calm breathing. I eventually fell asleep too. Maggie could calm me down even when she was asleep. That's amazing.Maggie's Point of View
The next morning we woke up and got ready for the journey ahead. After we were ready we sat for a moment.
"Nico?"
"Yes Maggie?"
"Where did you learn that beautiful song from?" I asked. He smiled but not a happy smile. A sad smile.
"My mom sang it to me before she died. Zeus try to kill my mom, my sister, and me because of the agreement that none of the Big Three would have kids. But we were born before that. This happened when I was like eight. Hades could only put a shield around me and my sister in enough time. So my mom died. And then after that my sister sang it to me until she died." He paused. "It used to help when I couldn't fall asleep or had a nightmare. I never thought about it until now."
"Well thank you." I said.
"For what?" He smiled, confused.
"For sharing that information with me even though it was hard." I replied.
He just kissed me and got up. He held out his hand, which I took, and pulled me up. We started to walk. It was a peaceful walk. Well as peaceful as it could be in Tartarus. We heard the occasion monster but it was farther away. After an hour we stumble upon a clearing. At the other side was an elevator. Nico and I made our way around the clearing, just inside the tree line. Once we were sure no monster were coming we made a run for it. We got inside.
"One of us has to hold the up button the whole ride up." He explained.
"I will." I started to press it and we went up. After about five minutes I asked Nico how long the ride was.
"13 minutes. 6 down, 7 to go." He said. He grabbed my other hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. I squeezed his back.
After seven minutes we heard a ding and then the doors opened. We stepped out. We were in a small village. I walked up to someone.
"Excuse me. Can you tell me where we are?" I asked the nice old man.
"You are in Ravenna, Italy." He said. Nico was now behind me.
"So did you figure out where we are? I couldn't because that lady over there, that I asked, kept saying I was a gorgeous young man. And she has a daughter." He looked upset.
"Don't go getting any ideas Di Angelo. I got my eyes on you. And we are in Ravenna, Italy." I told him.
"I grew up in Venice, Italy." He told me. "I always wanted to visit here but we didn't have the time or money."
"I wanted to visit here too. There are beautiful mosaics. And Dante's tomb. And the Tomb of Theodoric. And the churches are said to be beautiful. I never had a chance to come here but I read all about it." I said.
"Well if you two are going to be exploring all day, you should get something to eat." The man said.
"Thank you but we don't have any money." Nico said.
"Nonsense. I will give you food as a welcome treat. Follow me." He said. We followed him.
"Thank you so much!!" I said.
