"Go on. Get inside"

Marlene said as I opened the door. I held my gun out making sure no infected were around us as the girls pushed a locker in front of the door. "Where are we going, Marlene?" Tess asked as Marlene hunched over in pain.

"This way" She replied, walking in a limping pace. "It's not far now." She had led us into some sort of warehouse, full of empty crates and boxes everywhere you look. "How you holdin' up?" Tess asked as Marlene struggled with every step. "I'm running on fumes... But I'll make it" She replied.

I shrugged my backpack, so it played more comfortably on my shoulder as I kept following Marlene. "The place is right ahead," She told us, walking us outside. "Attention. Curfew is now in full effect. Anyone caught outside without proper authorization will be arrested and prosecuted" The speakers said as we passed into another building. "Shit. We need to hurry" Marlene ordered.

"What the hell are we smuggling?" I asked with curiosity in my voice; I didn't have any ideas so far about what it could be. "I'll show you" Was Marlene's reply.

The spoke repeated itself as we carried on up yet more stairs. These stairs led into a room crowded with rubbish. "Joel, gimme a hand with this" Marlene said as she struggled with a door. I walked forwards and opened the door with her. Once we were in, she fell to the ground, "Whoa, whoa whoa..." I said. "Come on now, get on up" I continued, grabbing her arm.

"Get the fuck away from her," A girls voice said.

I turned around and saw a young girl holding a knife. "Hey. Hey. Hey-" Tess said, grabbing hold of her arm.

"Let her go," Marlene said, in quite a serious mother, almost motherly. Tess let go of her arm, and the girl didn't try to attack again. "You're recruitin' kind of young, aren't ya?" I said. "She's not one of mine" Marlene replied, getting up.

The girl must have seen Marlene's injury as she walked up to her. "Shit. What happened?" The girl asked. "Don't worry. This is fixable" Marlene reassured her. "I got us help." The girl looked happy for a moment. "But I can't come with you." Her happiness had vanished immediately. "Well, then I'm staying" She argued. "Ellie, we won't get another shot at this" Marlene said. I walked over to them from my place at the door."Hey- We're smuggling her?" I asked, already seeing the difficulties this was going to be.

"There's a crew of Fireflies that'll meet you at the Capitol building" Marlene explained. "That's not exactly close" Tess pointed out. "You're capable" She replied. "You hand her off, come back, the weapons are yours" Started Marlene, "Double what Robert sold me." "Speaking of which- where are they?" Tess asked quite sternly while I stepped back and turned my back to them, not wanting to be in the conversation. "Back in our camp." "We're not smuggling shit until I see them" Argued Tess.

"You'll follow me. You can verify the weapons; I can get patched up. But she's not crossing to that part of town" Marlene said, pointing at the girl. "I want Joel to watch over her." I turned my back as I heard what she said, "Whoa, whoa, I don't think that's the best idea" I said while the girl argued her view as well, "Bullshit! I'm not going with him".

"Ellie..." Marlene said, now quite restless. "How do you know them?" The girl asked. "I was close with his brother, Tommy. Said if I was ever in a jam I could rely on him". "Was that before or after he left your little militia group?" I asked. "He left you too" She reminded me. "He was a good man."

Tess came up to me and said in a lower tone, "Look, just take her to the north tunnel and wait for me there." "Jesus Christ" I complained. "She's just cargo, Joel."

"Marlene..." Ellie murmured. "No more talking" Said Marlene, her injury probably tiring her out. "You'll be fine," She told her.

Marlene got up from her leaning position and looked at me. "Now go with him," She told the girl, who I noticed her name was Ellie.
