"Hey, we're gonna search this area. See what we come up with" Henry shouts out to me, running with his brother ahead. "That was intense. You cool?" Ellie asks me as she slows her pace to keep up with mine. "Yeah. Let's go find that radio tower" I reply. "Uhm. Do you trust him?". "Yeah, I do". I pick up some alcohol in a small boat and a crab scurries away as I pick it up. "Hey, don't worry about it. We're fine now, okay?" Ellie tells me, noticing that I was still quite tense. "Yeah".
"Hey, maybe we can find something in that boat over there" Ellie shouts out, pointing at a decaying boat on the sand. As we see Henry and Sam again he tells me to keep my eyes peeled, "Way ahead of you, kid" I murmur. I jump up onto the boat and Ellie follows me, "Woah" She says. "What?" I ask her as I open a door to the inside of the boat. "First time on a boat" She admits, I chuckle. "Well, it's a bit different in the water" I tell her, remembering the times that I had gone sailing. "One step at a time" She replies.
Inside I found another one of the Savage Starlight comics that Ellie had been reading, this one was called: Antiparticles. I put it in my backpack, figuring that I would give it to Ellie later. The dorm rooms at the bottom of the boat were filled with sea water, and the sides had eroded leading to the other side of the beach. I jump over a fallen tree trunk and come to a dead end, "I can't go this way" I say. "For a second there, I thought you might shoot him" Ellie says from behind me. "Yeah... Almost did" I admit. "They're alright. I think it's good to have 'em around". "I think you're right" I reply, knowing that they meant well.
"Did everyone have boats back then?" Ellie asks me as I pick up some bullets from another small abandoned boat. "Yeah, I had a sixty foot yacht" I joke, "Really?", "No". "Sarcasm... Making progress" She murmurs.
We head back to where Sam and Henry were, "Hey Ellie, I think we found something!" Sam shouts out. Sam was waiting by some rocks, "Let's go see what it is". Me, Ellie and Sam climb up the rocks, being careful not to slip, and when we get to the top, Henry is waiting outside the entrance to a sewer. "Hey, I bet this goes all the way through" He says. I walk over to the entrance, and put my hands on the metal bars, "Gimme a hand with this" I say.
Henry grabs the other side of the door and we lift it up together, "Alright, c'mon, kids, go" I say. Ellie and Sam walk through and climb into the dark sewers, turning their flashlights on. Henry holds the door up for me to get in, and when I am I hold it up for him. When he is in I slowly shut the door. "Hey flashlights out" Henry says, even though he kept his on. "Sam, stay-", Sam finished his sentence, "Stay close. I know". "Someone's finally learning".
As we walk through, we come to a route with two paths. "Ah, great" Henry says. "Joel, we should see what's over here" Ellie says to me, leading the way down one route. "I'm not a fan of this place" She says, looking around. As we come through, we get to a door that is blocked. "If you can get it open, I can crawl through and clear that door" She says, looking at a small door. I pull the cover off and a large rat runs out, "Oh yeesh. That is a big rat" Ellie gasped. She gets down on her knees and starts to crawl through, after a couple of seconds, she is already on the other side.
Ellie runs over to the box that blocks the door and pulls it away before opening the door for me. "And... Voila".
I pick up a few supplies of racks in the room. "Do you think they'll join us all the way to Tommy's?" She asks me, "I don't know. We're just gonna have to see how this all plans out" I reply. I pick up some parts and a note:
I'm gone for a few months and the world doesn't
waste any time going to shit. Everywhere you
turn there're infected - and non-infected - trying
to kill you. Mankind is back on the food chain,
baby! I'm kind of shocked I've survived this
long.
These sewers seem pretty safe. Limited
exits/entrances make it easier to defend, and if
anyone gets in here. I can lose them in the
maze. I might not be tough, but I am quick.
Maybe I just need to bide my time down here
until it all gets sorted up there. I think I'll
become a sewer mole-man for a while. Wish
me luck.
I put the note back, was there someone else living here? Were they still alive? I don't dwell on it. We go out and then up a couple steps to where we find Sam and Henry are. They were crowded around some sort of water thing. "Can we get out this way?" Sam asks. "Nah. There's no way to reach that" Henry replies to him. "Well I can't swim" Sam tells us as I jump down, into the water. "That makes two of us" Ellie explains. "Hey, maybe this'll lead somewhere" Henry suggests, twisting a wheel. "It's jammed!" He shouts.
I dive down under water and could see the pipe that was jamming it. I held my breath and pulled the pipe out, struggling for breath when I reached the top. "Henry, give it a shot!" I call out. Henry walks over to the wheel and starts to twist it again, "Yep - it's working!" Henry says as he gets the gate up. I dive back under and got to the other side. There was a pair of scissors, which I picked up and quickly made a nail bomb before I forgot. There was also a ladder, which I climbed up and could hear a clicking noise, but I knew where it was coming from. Before I went to investigate, I pushed a pallet down into the water for Ellie. As I open the door to which I hear the clicking coming from, I see a clicker straight away.
It sounded like there was quite a few, so I just left quietly and pushed the pallet over to Ellie. She jumped on and I pushed her to the other side to which she jumps up onto. "Alright, see if that generator still got some juice" I say. "Here goes nothin'". Ellie starts the generator up, and the platform that Sam and Henry were stood on move slowly over to where Ellie was. "Alright!" She says, smiling. "Huh. I can't believed it actually worked" Sam says, "Yeah, don't jinx us" His brother Henry replies.
They both jump off carefully and I jump back into the water as Henry put his hand out to help me up. Henry pulls me up, and I squeeze the water from my rolled up sleeves. "I gotta say. I'm impressed with you two" Henry mentioned, "Psshhh... We're pros at this by now" Ellie jokes, Henry seems humoured. As we make our way down, we come across a door. "Uh... What's up with this?" Ellie asks, noticing the painting of the castle on it. "You think there's people inside?" Sam asks. "Maybe".
"Are we really going in there?" Questions Ellie. "No other choice" I point out, I push the door open and a basket of bottles drop and smash onto the floor. "Oh shit" I say, backing away from the glass. "It's a sound trap" Sam says, "A what?" Ellie asks. "It's a sort of alarm" I explain. "I don't hear anything" She points out. "Someone use to live here" I tell her, noticing a white board saying HOUSE RULES.
"Don't look like that's the case anymore" I add. Sam screws up his face, "Who would stay in here?" He asks, noticing the stench. "Well, someone who thought they could keep a place like this safe". "Ugh".
As we push on a notice a gun on a table. As I pick it up and look at it carefully it was obvious that it was a Shorty. "Oh, awesome" Ellie says as she looks at something on the ground, I see what she was looking at; a condom. "Ellie, don't-", "Ah, calm down" She says. Ellie picks up a white ball and Sam stands underneath a homemade goal. Ellie kicks the ball, and Sam catches it in his hands, "Oh... Henry, did you see that?" Asked Sam, enthusiastically. "Let's keep it down, buddy, okay?". Sam looks a little un-pleased, "Yeah" He says, "Sorry". Sam places the ball back on the ground and continues on with a slight frown on his face.
