"That was too damn close" I say to Ellie, wiping the sweat off of my forehead. "To the edge of the universe and back. Endure and survive" She replies, "Excuse me?" I ask her, not knowing what she was saying. "Savage Starlight. That comic I've been reading? It's what the hero says after a big battle". "Endure and survive?" I repeat, laughing at the words. "Yeah". "Okay" I say, rolling my eyes.
I check a cabinet and find a few supplies. "Man look at all these books" Ellie says, admiring the large selection of old reading books. "I wish I had more room in my backpack" She continues, I take a few pills, making sure i'm at maximum health. "Oh, so you're a reader, huh?" I ask. "Well, when i'm not running away from hunters and infected, yeah. I read all the time". I quickly make another nail bomb and put my backpack back on my back. "Okay, we need to lighten the mood. Ready?" She asks, pulling out a small book from her pocket. "It doesn't matter how much you push the envelope. It'll still be stationary". I didn't reply, I wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"Man, you'd gotta be crazy to string up soldiers" Ellie says. "You get people desperate enough, they'll do just about anything" I tell her, searching for supplies. "And the people that rose up... They're the one's we've been fighting here?". "That's be my bet" I reply truthfully. I looked on the walls; more graffiti. There were soldiers hanged upside down, their skulls on show. "Let's see where this leads us" I shout out to Ellie as we come across another staircase. "Watch yourself on these drops" I tell her as I jump off the stairs seeing as the rest of the stairs were blocked off with office furniture.
I jump over another road blocker and see more hunters. "Down. Down, down, down" I tell Ellie. "There's more of 'em" I tell her as we hide behind a yellow taxi. "Hurry up with that plank" One man shouts as the other pulls a long plank up and onto a bus which they used as a bridge to get to the next building without having to swim. Both men went into the next building with their guns in their hands. "Alright" I say, standing up. "I don't think they saw us".
"Whew. There's our bridge. We're a little closer. I think", "Let's keep at it. C'mon". Ellie was right though, we were a lot closer to the bridge than I had expected. "I can't make that jump" I say as we stand on a car looking at the bus the hunters had used for a bridge. "If you get me up there, I can move that plank" Ellie suggests. I jump into the water and look at the bus, "Wait here! Let's see where this goes" I say.
After swimming around a bit, I find a large plank which I can use to get Ellie across the water. I hear a loud screech of a car, but I can't see it, "What the hell? Oh, this is a bad place" I say as I hear a woman's scream and gun shots. As I swim back to Ellie I see her sitting cross legged on the car, and when she seems me she stands up, knowing what to do. "What was that all about?" She asks. "Get on. We're cuttin' through the hotel" I tell her. "Um... okay..." Ellie replies as she jumps on. I pull her over to the bus and she jumps up onto it. "Set up that plank like they did" I instruct her.
Ellie picks up the plank and puts it so it crosses to the next car that is halfway in the water and half out. "Alright. Now you just need to find a way up" She points out. Ellie crosses over herself and I swim under to where she is, the building we were in now looked like some sort of coffee shop. "Oh - this place stinks" Ellie says as she breathes in the air. "Yeah, wood's all rotten" I tell her. "Did you go to coffee shops a lot?" She asked, looking around. "I did. All the time" I admit, remembering the smell of coffee. "And what would you get?". "Just... Just coffee". I pick up some alcohol lying around and a couple more rags. "Do you think those hunters are gone?" Ellie asks as we walk back across the plank. "We're about to find out" I say a little quieter as I enter the new building.
I loom around for a second and then call to Ellie, "It's clear Ellie, come on down". "Whoa... This is fancy. Ever stay in a place like this? Before it all went to shit, I mean" Ellie asks me as she looks at the hotel and the painted ceiling. "No" I laugh, "No, this is too rich for my blood". "I bet we can get up there" Ellie says looking at the balcony. "No, it's too high. Let's see what we can find" I tell her. I look around for supplies and see another coffee area, "Ahhh, I really miss coffee" I say to myself.
I pick up a ladder and set it down where Ellie had pointed out before. I go up first, making sure that it is safe, when I see it is I tell Ellie to, "Come on up". "Watch your step" I tell Ellie as the stairs up get thinner. "Oh shit. Get down, get down" I tell Ellie as we jumped through the window because I hear more hunters. "Wait, how many is that now?" A man asks. "Hm, five in a week. But, hey, I'm not complaining". "I bet you're not. We done here?". "We got another floor to check, man".
"Check for what? I ain't seen a clicker in weeks". "That's cause we're thorough . We're gonna keep being thorough. Now let's wrap this up, right?". "Alright, whatever". Then men start to spread out, giving me the chance to jump through the window frame, which I do. I stay crouched with my rifle out as I gather more supplies lying in a cabinet. I looked at all my supplies and saw I didn't have neough to make anther health kit so I would need to use stealth. I threw a bottle to the room which I was in and on of the men came in, when he was close enough I strangled him.
I could see the other man in the other room, so I use the same technique to allure him in, and I killed him like the last man.
"Holy shit" Says a hunter as he enters the room where the dead men are. As he searches their bodies I strangle him as well as he didn't know I was there it was a lot easier. I listen carefully and I can pin point two more men that are close by. One of the hunters came in the room and pulled a weapon out as he saw the dead men. As he quickly moved out the room I was able to get him as well.
