The Last Of Us (Fan-Fic)

Fall- Chapter Three- Part 1 Hydroelectric Dam

We were in Jackson County now, it was a lot different from the suburbs, no houses, the area was all green, you could also see large mountains which were far, far away. "Jackson County" Ellie says, reading the sign, "Means we're close to Jackson city, right?". "Shouldn't be more than a few miles" I reply. We had both changed our clothes now, Ellie wore a faded black top with a pink and white jacket on top. I wore similar clothes to before, but this time I wore a red plaid top instead of green.

"You ready to see dear, old brother?" Ellie asks me. "I'm just ready to get there" Is my reply and we jog on down the path. "You nervous?" She questions. "I don't know what I'm feeling". We keep stumbling up the muddy path, squirrels run out in front of us ever so often, there was a lot of wildlife in this area. "So much for this road" Ellie says as we come to a dead end. "We just follow the river. It'll lead us straight to Tommy's. C'mon" I say as we turn around and find another route.

"What happened between you two?" Ellie asks, "What do you mean?" I say. "You and Tommy... You're not together, so clearly something went down" She says as we jump down. "We just had a bit of a disagreement, that's all". "Oh here we go... So what was it about?" She pushes, sometimes I really hated Ellie's curiosity. "Tommy saw the world one way, I saw it the other" Was my simple answer, "And that's why he joined the Fireflies?".

"Yeah, your friend Marlene promised him hope. That kept him busy for awhile, but just like Tommy, he eventually quit that too" I tell her as we climb up some rocks. "How was it, the last time you saw him?". "I believe his last words were, "I don't ever want to see your god damned face again"" I tell Ellie, remembering the last time I saw my brother. "Jeez. But he's gonna help us?" She says, doubting the chance, "I suppose we're going to find out" Is my reply. "Well, with or without his help, we'll get there" Ellie says, trying to make the mood better. "Let's just keep going". 

As we come there is a huge power plant in the distance, "Whoa... What's that?" Ellie asks, seemingly impressed. "That right there is a hydroelectric power plant" I tell her, impressed with myself seeing as I knew what something was for once. "A... Hydra-who?" She replies, confused. 

"It uh... uses the river's movement and turns it into electricity" I say as we climb up some steps, "How's it do that?" Ellie asks, it seemed like I was on a chat show, so many questions. "Look, I know what it is, I don't know how it does it". "All right... How are we getting across?" She asks seeing as the river separated the two sides, we were on one and had to get to the other.

I run over to a wheel and start to turn it until a platform came up, "Well that gets us halfway" Ellie points out, "If we get the other one up, we'll make it across". I go other to the door to a building and open it up using a shiv. Inside there was a lot of supplies including some arrows for my bow. As I exit the room I jump over a barrier and into the water. "I'll find something. Just hang tight" I call out to Ellie as I swim out.

I see nothing on the surface of the water so I dive under and see a pallet stuck between something. I go into the area where it is stuck and push it up, onto the surface as I come up as well to catch my breath. "All right Ellie, I need you to...", "I know, step on the fucking pallet". I don't comment. 

Ellie jumps onto the pallet and I swim her over to the other side where the was a gap in the barrier. Ellie climbs onto the platform and starts to spin the wheel as I swim over to the other side. As I walk on the first platform, Ellie just finished getting the other up. "Hey, be careful crossing that thing" She says, "I will".

When I get to the other side, Ellie raises her hand and says, "Teamwork". I high five her and she says, "Yeah", I supposed it really didn't matter, it was just a high five. We go up a couple more steps until we come to the forest area again. "Aughh, I'm so hungry" Ellie complains. "I know, I am too" I reply. "All right, next squirrel I see, I'm totally shooting it" She says. "Let's just get past this place, then we can scrounge up some food". "Well, if I starve, you're responsible". 

We duck under a fallen tree and come across a area blocked off by a fence, there was a small building though. "Uh... should we head in?" She asks. "Ah, ain't no way around. Gonna have to cut through the plant". I go into the building and take the map off of the wall in case we got lost. As I go to leave I see a gun by the door, I pick it up and firstly notice the scope on the top, for sure it was an El Diablo. 

I put it in my backpack and jog over to the large gate, I get hold of the handles and try to push it open. Suddenly I hear the reload of a gun and I hear a woman's voice, "Don't even think about reaching for your weapon. Tell the girl to drop hers. Now". I keep my hands apart so they knew I wasn't going to do anything, "Ellie, do as the lady says". "Okay" Ellie says, putting her hands up. "Please tell me you're lost" She says, still holding her gun. "We didn't know the place was occupied. We're just trying to make our way through" I say truthfully. "Through to where?" She asks.

"They're alright" I hear a man say. "What, you know these people?" The lady asks. "I know him. He's my goddamned brother". Of course it was Tommy, he had open the gate and was looking straight at me. "Tommy" I murmur, taking him in. "Holy shit" He replies, walking over to hug me. I slowly put my arms around him as well. "How you doin', baby brother?" I ask as he laughs. "Goddamn". "Yeah".

"Let me look at you" Tommy says pushing away, but keeping one hand on my shoulder, I smile. "You got fucking old" He jokes, I push his hand off, "Easy- It's gonna happen to you too". Tommy walks back a step to where the lady was, "This is Maria" He introduces, "Be nice to her, she sorta runs things around here" He tells me with a smile. "Ma'am. Thanks for not blowing my head off" I say, looking at her, she had short blonde hair and pale skin. Maria looks at Tommy and then back at me, "Would've been embarrassing, considering you're my brother-in-law". I stand shocked for a second, looking at my brother, "We all gotta get wrangled up at some point" He says.

Maria looks round, "Ellie, right?" She asks, "Yeah". "What brings you through here" She asks. Ellie quickly looks at me for a second before looking back at Maria, "Uh... It's kind of a long story". "Why don't we bring 'em inside?" Tommy says to Maria. "Yeah. You hungry" Maria asks Ellie. Ellie's eyes widen, "Starving" She says, eager to get inside and eat. We all walk inside and Tommy shuts the big door behind us.
