As we came out of that area, the next was flooded. "Hey, uh, I can't swim" Ellie said, as I went into the water. "We'll figure out something" I said. I decided that I would find something that she could float on, but the problem was finding it. I dove under the water and under a submerged train. When I came up again there was a platform. I climbed onto it and found another dead body, the body had a note beside it, some I picked it up and read it.
Your contact is a dude named Frank- he's the
guy on the outside I've been trading with. He
wants into the Boston QZ. Meet him in the Park
Street exit of the subway station (right by the
capitol building.)
Attached is his Visa and QZ papers (you like that
handiwork?).
Be careful down there. Some of my other guys
are reporting Clickers and Stalkers in the area.
[Where the hell is this guy? I've been waiting
here for over two hours sweating bullets. I keep
thinking I'm seeing something move in the
shadows- fells like a stalker is going to jump
out at me any second now. I'm giving him
another 15 minutes and then I'm heading back.]
I put the note away and saw Ellie by my side. She must have found a way to climb over the trains and reach the platform which we were on. I went back into the water and grabbed a large plank and swam with it to where Ellie was. "Get on" I told her. "Really?" She asked, but jumped on. "Ellie" I sighed. "Okay. Okay".
"Ah. Be careful" She said, as the plank slightly tipped. "I gotcha" I replied, pushing her over to the platform on the other side. Ellie jumped onto the platform and pushed a ladder down for me so I could get onto the platform as well. "Alright, let's get outta here" I said. We walked forwards and could see fungus growing up the wall and even on the ceiling. I saw the stairs out and ran up them, leading the way outside.
As we came out I removed my gas mask and sat down on a pile of tyres, breathing in the fresh air. Ellie put her hands on her hips and looked at the floor. "Hey, look, um... about Tess... I don't even know what to-". I cut her off, "Here's how this thing's gonna play out". "You don't bring up Tess- ever".
"Matter of fact, we can keep our histories to ourselves". "Secondly, don't tell anybody about your condition. They'll think your crazy or they'll try to kill you". "And lastly, you do what I say, when I say it". "We clear?" I said. "Sure" She muttered, still looking at the ground. "Repeat it" I insisted. "What you say, goes". "Good".
"Now, there's a town a few miles north of here" I said, standing up. "There's a fella there that owes me some favors...". "Good chance he could get us a car". "Okay" She said. "Let's get a move on".
I walked forwards, knowing she would follow along. We walked along, following the road till I stopped. "Now there we go..." I said pointing at a large town. "Yeah, it'll be faster to go through here" I said, humping down, and off of the road into a small forest. "Man..." Ellie said, looking around. "What?" I asked. "Nothing. It's just... I've never seen anything like this, that's all".
"You mean the woods?". "Yeah. Never walked through the woods. It's kinda cool". As I walked forwards a large crane flew away from where it was as I came closer. "Why don't you just take me back to Marlene" She asked. "If she was up to the task, why'd she drop you off on us?". "Well maybe she's better now". "Kid, I don't mean to upset you, but your friend's chances of survival weren't too high to begin with". "She's a lot tougher than you think". "It don't matter. 'Cause I doubt I could get either one of us back into the city in one piece. Trust me, I wish there was some other option".
We came across a large fence. I went up to the doors and tested the lock, but it was locked shut. "Well shit" I murmured. "Should we climb it?" Ellie asked. "No, wire on the top of it. We gotta find a way to go around". "Whoa look" Ellie said, I turned around to see what she was up to. "Fireflies" She said, looking at the glowing creatures. "I mean real fireflies".
"Yeah, I see that" I said. "Sorry I- I lost myself for a sec" Ellie admitted as I climbed up onto a small building. I picked up what looked like scissors on a iron pipe, it looked quite handy, and would be good for killing clickers. I jumped back down and picked up a plank that I could use to cover the gap to the next building we needed to reach. I put it onto the building, and then climbed on top of it.
When I was up I simply pulled up the plank and set it down so it reached to the next building. I slowly crossed over it, making it to the next building. "That you, Bill?" I asked, looking over to see a large amount of smoke coming from somewhere in the town. "Where do you usually meet him?" Ellie asked after she had crossed over as well. "Huh? Different places" I replied. "You've never been here have you?". "I know this is where he lives, but.. no, I ain't never been here, personally" I admitted.
"And that smoke, you think that's him?" She asked as we jumped own. "Sure as hell better be". "Well, let's go check it out then". "Down here" I said. "Just watch your step. It's a good drop" I said, jumping down myself. "Through here" I said, opening up a door and going inside. We went up the stairs which led to the next floor.
