The Last Of Us (Fan-Fic)

Fall- Chapter Three- Part 5 The University

I slowly climb the small set of stairs and come to the first corridor where I see one runner. Before I can kill him he moves into the next room where I could hear that most of the infected were in. I decide to be stealthy and throw a bottle a few metres away from me and one runner comes out to go and see what it was. I quickly take it by the neck and strangle it quickly. Unfortunately there were no more bottles around so I go around the corner into the next corridor, keeping quiet.

This time there were windows with no glass so I could see all the infected in the other room. I made a quick decision to throw a Molotov which seemed to set them all on fire. They scream loudly until they all fall to the ground; dead. "And that's that" I say to myself, surprised I'd be able to take them all out so easily. I go into the room and collect some petrol and then I go over to the generator and start it up. I start to go back down the stairs and I can hear Ellie.

"Hey, I was thinking.... I would've wanted to be an astronaut" She says. "That a fact?" I reply. "Yeah. Can you imagine being up there all by yourself?" She asks as she comes through the gate with Callus. "Would've been cool. I'm just sayin'" She adds. I turn the power on again and this time it works and the second gate opens. "What about you? What'd you want to be?" Ellie asks as we go through, back outside. "Oh... Well, when I was a kid I used to want to be a... singer" I admit. Ellie laughs, "Shut up".

"I'm serious" I tell her. "Sing something" Ellie says. "Ah, no" I tell her, going up some steps. "Come on. I won't laugh" She tempts. "I don't think so". "Joel. Please". I don't reply, I wasn't going to sing whatever the circumstance. I run up some steps, and Ellie followed along on Callus. Looking around the new area, I find nothing that I can use. Eventually I get on Callus as well and we jump over a waist high fence with barbed wire on top. "Hey look, monkeys!" Ellie says, pointing at a statue with a crowd of monkeys around it. "Yeah, a whole mess of them".

As we ride down the steps, the monkeys all run away, probably scared of the horse. "That was kind of awesome" Ellie admits, looking at the monkeys as they run away. "First time seeing a monkey?" I ask her. "First time seeing a monkey" She confirms. I look up at the signs and find the one saying 'Science Lab', I follow the directions. "Hey, look, Fireflies" Ellie says as we ride past a spray painted image of the firefly symbol. 

We keeping riding till there's another gate which is not opened. As I get off the horse Ellie says, "I'll stay with Callus". "I hate that name" I complain. Ellie isn't amused, but doesn't reply. I see a door which is half blocked by plastic chairs. I duck down under it and, "Watch yourself" Ellie says when i'm through. "You too".

I pick up a few pills and some screws on the way in. I also pick up a map of the campus in case I got lost. I make my way up the stairs and into the first corridor. It was silent, there were chairs and tables lying on the ground, but i couldn't hear any infected yet. I open the first door I see and go in, by the looks of it these were the dorms where the students must have slept. I go into the bathroom and grab some alcohol. After that I go into another dorm and open a cupboard draw and take a pair of scissors. The other drawer also had something in it, this time there was a journal.

Nine goddamn months of waiting, and still,
nothing. No word from anyone. Found some
additional cans of food in the dining commons,
but they won't last. Had an incident at the
eastern hall barricades but everything's still
secure.

I caught a glimpse of a group of those things
running around. I saw one that looked like
Heather. Maybe it WAS Heather. Fuck...

Since batteries are running short, they're now
only listening to their radio once a night. I gave
up on that since the last broadcast - it's been
three fucking months, why do they bother?

02/25

Cheryl was smoking out yesterday. Said she
needed it. She got pissed when I threw out her
stash. She doesn't get it. We needed to keep a 
clear head here.

Someone's going to have to go into town and get
more supplies. It's probably going to be me. 

I put the journal back, it wasn't useful at all. "Wonder how long you held out" I think out loud. I go through the rest of the dorms, picking up all the ammo I can find. "Oh, damn it. Spores" I say, putting on my gas mask. The spores make it a lot harder to see, my gas mask already had scratches on the lense making it even more difficult. 

As I walk through the corridors I come across a large hole in the floorboards, it's too big to jump over and I can't go around the sides. I decide to quickly jump down, when I reach the ground I can hear clickers straight away, and I could even see them. I follow one clicker into a dorm and then shiv it in the neck, making sure there were no other infected that were nearby. I take some more scissors off the ground and make another shiv as quickly as I possibly could. As I come out of the dorm there is a clicker right outside. With the shiv I had just made, I kill the clicker and hear the blade snap in it's neck.

I kill a few more clickers as I move around the dorms. I also catch a glimpse of a bloater which I know will be hard to take down. I take a few arrows they were lying on top of a table and store them in my backpack. I kill all the clickers until one the bloater is left. In the end I decide not to kill the bloater, it would b likely that I'd get myself killed if I tried. I find some double doors and try to open them, but something was blocking it from the other side. Suddenly the bloater comes into the corridor where I am and it can hear me. I keep pushing the door until it finally is open and I block it with a metal filing cabinet and watch the bloater bang on the door, unable to get through.
