Ellie's POV:
It's winter now. Everything thing is covered in snow, meaning it was cold, very cold. I was in a new area, there were tall trees and big rocks, the woods are big, but I haven't been here long enough to see everything yet. I don't have time to adventure though, the winter is tough and I need to eat. I stalk a white rabbit as it comes quickly out of a hole. It slips and slides as it walks on the snow, sniffing the air, it had probably just come out of hibernation. I shakes its fur and I quickly shoot an arrow throw it's body.
I walk over and pull the arrow out of the rabbit and hold it up, sighing. "Oh, this won't last very long". As I start to tie it onto Callus I hear a light padding sound for far away. I looked around and see a deer, astonished, my eyes widen. I quickly put the horses lead over a branch of a tree and say, "You'll just startle it".
I slowly slide down a small hill, trying to make as little sound as possible. "Where'd you go?" I ask. I take the bow from my backpack so that I would be ready when I saw the deer again. As I step on a twig the deer runs away, up a hill. I climb up some rocks so that I could get a better view to where the deer was. Once I got to the top, I could see the deer, but it was too far to shoot yet. I edge closer and closer, trying to be as quiet as I can. But, the deer saw me and ran away, "Stupid" I say.
I start to chase after the deer, up the rest of the hill. I see the deer again and I take cover behind a large rock as I get out another arrow. I aim for the body of the deer and I take the shot. Surprisingly I actually hit it, and the deer starts to run again. I start to follow the blood trail up another hill and I see him again. Like before, I aim up the shot and release the arrow. My luck seemed to keep going as I hit it again. "Oh, man" I say as it runs off again. I start following the blood again, up and down more hills. "How are you still alive?" I ask. I climb over a fence and go down a small hill. Up ahead I could see a old house, it was just wood now, no bricks. Most of the roof had fallen in and there were no more windows or doors. "What is this place?" I question.
I see the blood trail seems to go into the house, "Oh great" I say, entering. "Everything's cool. This place is not creepy at all" I tell myself. I pick up some broken scissors and find another one of the comics I liked in a drawer, this one was called Uncertainty. I quickly read the blurb.
Book 4: UNCERTAINTY
Mankind's trillions have become billions. The
Traveler's technology eclipsed the most
optimistic projections of human advancement
over the next five hundred years, and humanity's
feeble resistance has all but crumbled. Barely
surviving the crash of the Kobyashi, Daniela and
Captain Ryan face the impending menace on the
surface of Titan. As I come out of the house I see the deer dead on the ground, "Oh". I say, relieved.
I keep my bow out as I look over the deer, but suddenly I hear the breaking of a twig. "Who's there?" I ask, pulling up my bow so that if I had to shoot I would. "Come out!" I shout. Two men come out from a different house. "Hello... we just want to talk" One of the men says. "Any sudden moves and I put one right between your eyes" I threaten, "Ditto for buddy-boy over there" I add, aiming my bow at him. "What do you want?" I ask.
"Um, name's David, this here's my friend, James" He introduces. "We're from a larger group - women, children - we're all very, very hungry" He continues. "So am I - women and children - all very hungry too" I tell them, pushing my hair out of my face. "Well, maybe we could ah, trade you for some of that meat there" He suggests. "What do you need? Weapons, ammo, clothes -". "Medicine!" I say, seeing a chance. "Do you have any antibiotics?" I ask.
"We do. Back at the camp. You're welcome to follow us-", I cut him off. "I'm not following you anywhere. Buddy-boy can go get it. He comes back with what I need, the deer is all yours. Anyone else shows up -", "You put one right between my eyes" David finishes off my sentence. "That's right" I say. David looks at James and then tells him, "Two bottles of the penicillin and a syringe. Make it fast". James looks at David in dis-belief as he knows that he could take me down easily.
James goes after David gives him a certain look. "I'll take that rifle" I say, looking at the gun he had over his shoulder. "Of course" He says, placing the gun on the white floor. "Back up" I tell him. He keeps his hands where I can see them as I put my bow and arrow into my back-pack and take the gun into my hands, reloading it just in case I needed to shoot.
"He's probably gonna be a while. You ah, mind if we take shelter from the cold?" He asks, pointing at a close building. I think through it for a second before I realized that he was right, we couldn't stand out in the cold forever. "Bring him with us" I say, pointing at the deer with my gun. I quickly wiped my nose, I was sure that I was coming down with some kind of cold. David looks at me before he grabs the deer by it's antlers and starts to drag it into the shelter.
David had made a fire when we were inside, he was adding wood to keep it going for longer. "There" He says, when he thinks it'll last. I don't sit, instead I kneel, if I had to move i'd be ready. "You know, you really shouldn't be out here all on your own" He tells me. "I don't like company" I reply. "I see. What's your name?".
I narrow my eyes, "Why?". "Look, I understand it's not easy to trust a couple of strangers. Whoever's hurt, you clearly care about them. I'm sure it's gonna be just fine". "We'll see" I don't make as I reply. Suddenly there is a loud clicking noise from outside, we both stand up. Before we know it a clicker bursts into the room and sniffs the air. It immediately seems to find me and I get ready to shoot, but something kills it before I can.
I look over and David shoots the Clicker once more as it lied on the ground. "You had another gun?" I say. "Sorry" He replies, giving me a strange look. "Okay, I'd really like my rifle back now" David says, reaching out for it. I pull it away from him, "No. You have your pistol" I tell him. "I hope you know how to use that thing" He says. "I've had some practice" I reply.
David shuts the metal door from which we came in and says, "No matter what, we have to keep them out". I wasn't too sure about his plan, but it didn't really feel like the correct time to argue. David also covers the deer with a blue blanket which was on top of a shelf saying, "Let's hope they don't find him". I take a health kit from a locker before I go over to the windows. I shoot the first runner which tries to come in and the one behind it. "Make every shot count now" David tells me as he quickly reloads.
"Nice goin' kid" He shouts out as I kill two more with head shots. David warns me as more come in, and I quickly have take some out with my switch blade as I scrounge up ammo. "You weren't kidding. You're a better shot with that thing than I am" David tells me, I don't reply. A few seconds later he starts to push a storage cupboard and says, "Gimme a hand with this". I go over and help him push the cupboard as we pushed it far enough to block. Before I knew it a runner grabbed me from behind, I try to push it off, but David is able to shoot it before it can bite me.
I don't have time to thank him as more infected try to get through the windows. "Don't let 'em come through the windows". It was hopeless him saying so as some were still able to get in. "More infected on this side. This is a big pack. They must've followed you" He criticizes. "Maybe they followed you and your friend" I suggest. "It doesn't matter. Now we're stuck in this together" He says as I shoot more through the windows. I even have to kill some with my bow and arrow as I run out of ammo.
After more and more come in David says, "Screw it. We're gettin' out of this room!". He kicks the door down and we run through a hallway where infected were still trying to get in. "C'mon. I'll block their path. Cover the stairs!".
