I snap back into reality to the sound of Cam's hand waving in front of my face.
"What are you doing?" I ask in a snappier tone than I meant to give him. He didn't feel offended which I found funny and slightly relieving.
"You good, bro?" He asked laughing.
I nodded and began to realize once more that he was okay. "Wait...so what happened?"
"Oh, baby," he said calmly. "Don't worry I'm okay."
When he called me baby, it gave me warm shivers. Never had I been called that by a boy. "I can clearly see you're okay but what happened?"
"Well, it's a bit of a long story," he said sitting up. He put his hand down next to him, signaling me to come onto the bed with him. I did as he asked and he wrapped himself around me like a blanket. "I told you it was a man who took me, correct?"
    "Yes."
"Well this man whore a very dark coat and it stretched down to under his knees. His eyes were a lizard green and he had a cleanly shaved upper lip. His breath smelt like coffee, as if he was a normal guy, but he didn't act like one. He only told me and your father these words, 'my woman's next victims and my next pay'. That was it. Then he wrapped us up in blankets, mine was red, and your father's was white and it had stains all over it. He began to throw us in the trunk of his old, white Ford pickup when the police arrived and sent him to jail."
"Wow," I began. "So did you get this man's n..."
There was a knock on the door. Mike walked over to the door and answered it. "Come on in," he said opening it.
"Hello sir, can we please take you out of the room for a second," said what appeared to be a dirty blonde woman.
"Hm," Cam said. "That's odd."
I got up out of the bed and Cam tried to grab after me. "Don't go. Come on just relax for a minute with me."
I didn't listen to him. I walked to the door, which was cracked open a little, to hear Mike talking to another lady. This was a different lady. She had bright red lipstick on and was very tall and skinny. She was beautiful. I envied her looks right away. Her hair was blonde and curly and she was just gorgeous. She was wearing casual clothing so clearly she didn't work at the hospital or wasn't an officer.
"Is he picking up?" she asked Mike. Picking up what? Mike turned towards her and I could see him holding a cell phone to his left ear. Hm. Mike is left handed.
"No," he said sternly.
Who wasn't picking up the phone? Who were they talking about? I walked back and sat down in a chair nearby once I heard footsteps. I could still hear their conversation.
"Come on, honey, he's obviously not going to pick up," said the woman.
"Sorry. I know I should think harder. He clearly isn't a very bright person so he doesn't just not care about Abigail, but he doesn't are about us either."
Okay now I was concerned. Whoever he was talking about was someone who knew me. Who? Cam? No obviously not.
"Alright well, I have to tell her. Should I? No."
"Well you can decide. I'll be in the waiting room," said the woman.
I couldn't take this anymore. I walked out the door and slammed it shut behind me. Mike and this lady both looked at me in fright. "Don't tell me what?" I asked upset.
Mike threw the lady a scared look and she shrugged her shoulders looking fairly worried. "Eh...er..."
"Tell me what!" I yelled it this time. A few people who walked by looked frightened by me as I slammed my foot on the ground and they walked a little faster.
"Eh...nothing," he said pushing me back into Cam's room and sitting me down on the bed towards the end where Cam's feet where.
"Eh there's something."
Mike sighed in and he seemed angry. "Why are you being so difficult?"
"What!" I said shocked and threw a little laugh at the end. "Me! Being difficult! I know absolutely NOTHING about my past and you're talking behind my back about some guy I don't know about that could possibly hurt me? Yeah! Yep! I'm being the difficult one here," I said throwing my hands to my side.
Mike rubbed his head and closed the door leaving the lady to wait in the hall.
"Sit down. Now," he said pulling up a chair. Cam looked mortified by the whole situation, so I laid a hand on his leg to calm him down.
"Who is this man you're talking about with that lady in the hallway? He isn't answering the phone blah blah..."
"Alright listen straight Abigail. This isn't a joke. First of all, that woman, is my wife, Terri. Second of all, if you want to know all this information, I'll have to tell you the rest of your past for you to understand," he said slamming his hand on the lamp table.
"Wait. How do you know my past?" I asked. He told me no one knew about my past.
"I don't know much. But I can try. Cam may have helped find some info that I now understand. It all leads up to this one person you want to know about. Are you sure you want to know everything?"
What kind of stupid question was that? Of course I did! This is what I wanted all along!
"Damn it just tell me my past!"
He stood up and shook his head leading me out the door. "Cameron, we'll see if you're healthy enough to leave the hospital. I'll ask the doctors before we leave."
He pulled me out the door and turned to talk to Terri. "You can head home, I'll be home later than normal," he said walking me into the elevator. He brought me out to his cruiser and sat me down in the passenger seat. "Stay here. I'm going to go and see if Cam can come."
I nodded and he shut the door. The car was fairly warm and the hot summer sun shining through the windshield made it even hotter. The sun was setting and it was about...what time was it?
I looked all around me for a watch or something. Couldn't find one. My phone was still at home. Damn it I always forgot that thing wherever I went. I looked up when I saw Cam and Mike walking towards the cruiser and Cam smiled at me. I sent a smile back and Mike opened the back door. "Get in," he said to Cam.
Mike hopped into the front seat and started the car. We got onto the road and it was silent. The car clock was visible so I checked it. 7:48. Wow time was going by fast today. Never did I think I was going to be heading onto a road that might lead to my past. Then I thought.
"Wait!" I snapped. "We're not going to my mother's house are we?"
Cam kept his head turned to the window. "That's my girl."
"No," said Mike flatly.
Well alright then. Where were we going then? Oh shit please don't take me somewhere I'll die. But take me somewhere where I can see my past. So basically, take me somewhere where I won't die but can see my past well enough that makes it clear to me.
"Here we are," said Mike pulling into the county prison.
Great.
He parked and unbuckled. "Alright. Get out."
"B-bu..."
"Look, if you want to see your past, get out of the cruiser!"
I followed orders and listened to what Mike told me to do. Cam followed behind and grabbed my hand so we were holding hands into the building.
"Hey Joe," said Mike to a well-tanned short man who was working the front of the prison entrance.
"Back so soon?" Asked Joe.
"Well, Abigail here needs to learn a little about her past so I wanted to show her some of the people involving her past."
"Ah," he said nodding his head and looking at me. He winked and I threw him a disgusted look that was signifying that he needed to stop being a pervert. "Who's this little man over here?" He said pointing to Cam. Cam may be shorter than me, but he didn't need to call him a "little man".
"Don't call him a little ma..."
"You know how old I am don't screw with me."
"Alright Cam, yo it's cool between us," he said laughing with Cam.
They knew each other? What kind of world was this?
"Who the hell was that?" I asked in a whisper.
"Just a guy I met because of you," he said grinning.
A guy he met because of me. Me. Me? What? "Well just to let you know, he checked me out and then winked at me. Creep."
Cam shook his head and laughed.
We walked into the building and Mike led us to a man who looked very crazy. His eyes were sky blue and they pierced the souls of whoever looked into them.
"Hello Robert," said Mike in an upset tone. "Nice to see you."
Robert....Robert...
"This is Robert How. The man I told you about in your mother's report."
"Oh," I said remembering from earlier. This was Robert How. What did he have to do with my past?
"This man is the man who stole Cameron, and your father. He's legally married to your mother right now. So, technically he is your father. He's also my...my...my cousin," he said disappointed.
So that meant Mike was related to me? If Robert was my legal father right now, and he was also Mike's cousin, he's my second cousin. Mike was related to me. Holy shit. This was already too much.
"You good, Ginger?" Asked Cam.
"Did you know about this, too Cam?" I asked nervously. "You're not related to me as well are you?"
He laughed. "I'm not related to you but I knew. Abigail?"
He was being serious again. Oh no. "Yes?"
"The only reason I know almost all about your past, is because I lived right next door to you for ten years. The first ten years of your life to be persist. Your mother was crazy. I met Mike when he tried to come over your house and take you when you were just a baby to save you from her. He knew for the longest time that Robert was having an affair with your mother. They were. For fifteen years. Weirdest time ever. My parents forced us to move once it got so bad that your mother was caught killing your sister in a car accident. I always liked you, Abigail. You were the cutest, and most loving girl I had ever met. You made my day. You made my life."
I was in shock. My past was coming to me. For the first time in the longest time. For the first time in. Forever.
