"When did you know?" I asked.
"Last year."
"Why haven't you talked to him about it?"
"Because. He's 20 years old and won't listen to me. Besides. He's gonna move out soon." She told me.
"Do you want me to talk to him?" I offered.
"No Bree. It's fine. Why don't you go talk to Grayson. I think he needs more talking to than Tyde." She suggested. I nodded my head and left the living room. I walked up the stairs and into Gray's room. I saw him on his phone in his bed.
"You okay?" I asked as I sat at the foot of his bed and rubbed his leg.
He sat up. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I'm just worried about you." I moved closer to him.
"You should be thankful that I stopped Tyde before he killed you." He said, turning his attention away from me to his phone.
"Of course. I'm lucky to have you in my life in general. It's just that... You seemed really angry."
"Why wouldn't I be? I mean, he almost killed you!" He yelled.
"But was it also about something else. Like the reality of Tyde being high and not the same person you grew up with?" I said.
Gray didn't talk. Instead he started tearing up. I felt bad for him.
"Come here." I said as I pulled him in for a tight hug. We hugged for a long time as he cried out his feelings. He pulled away from me and wiped his eyes and gave a small chuckle.
"I'm sorry you have to see me like this."
"Don't be. You've seen me cry before." I smiled.
"I love your smile." He grinned.
"I love you." I leaned in and gave him a small kiss.
"Oops. I didn't know you two were---"
"It's fine mom. What do you need?" Gray said back to his mom.
"I was wondering what you two wanted for dinner." She said.
"Um. Why don't we just order a pizza?" I suggested.
"Yeah." Grayson agreed.
"Sure. Pepperoni?" Mrs. Hunter asked.
Gray and I nodded our heads and she laughed and went downstairs to order the pizza.
"So what do you wanna do?" I asked.
"You wanna go for a swim in the pool?" He asked.
"Totally. I'll go downstairs and change." I got off his bed and went back downstairs and to my room. I looked through all of the shopping bags and found my new black bikini. I changed into it quickly and when I was done, there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" I yelled.
"Grayson."
"Come in."
He opened the door in his red swim trunks and looked at me.
"What?" I smiled.
"You just look beautiful."
"Really?" I asked.
He nodded and took out his phone. "Come here. I wanna take a picture."
I laughed and walked over to him. He was on snapchat.
We took a quick photo and I watched as he typed up the caption.
Pool time with the most beautiful girl ever.
"Aww. How sweet." I said sarcastically.
We laughed and headed out to the backyard.
"Wait! What about your bandage?" I asked.
"It's almost been a week. It should be fine." He responded.
"It's been two days." I giggled.
"Whatever." He said like valley girl.
Gray laughed as he grabbed some towels from the pool shed and placed them on the chairs. Then he was about to jump in when his foot slipped and he belly flopped into the pool. I rolled my eyes with a smile and swam toward him. He popped his head out of the water and wiped his face. His stomach and chest were completely red.
"You okay?" I laughed as I put my hand on his chest.
"I should be fine." He smiled. We played around for awhile. Just swimming and playing little games. After a while, Mrs. Hunter came out and called us in to eat. We got out of the pool and dried ourselves off.
"Wait here." Gray said. He ran into house as I continued to dry off my body and hair. After a minute or so, Gray came back out with two of his big white tee shirts. He tossed one to me and I put it on. He put on one himself and then we walked into the house.
Sage and Peyton were already at the table eating.
"You guys enjoy. I'll go see if Tyde wants any." Mrs. Hunter said.
"Thank you." I said to her. She gave a grin and walked out of the dining area. Gray grabbed me a plate and I took a slice of pizza.
"Where were you earlier?" Sage asked me.
"Gray and I went swimming." I told her, taking a bite of my pizza.
"Can we go swimming later?" Peyton asked with a mouthful of pizza. I laughed.
"After your done." Gray answered. We ate and talked until we heard Mrs. Hunter and Tyde yelling.
"Just keep eating girls. Try to ignore it." Gray said. The yelling became louder and harder to ignore.
I was about to grab a second slice when I heard a loud pop. A gun.
I looked at Grayson and he was looking at me.
"Sage. Peyton. Go into Bree's room and don't come out until I tell you. Go." Gray said to the girls. I got up and led them to my room while Grayson went up to Tyde's room. I let the girls into the room and let them on my bed. They looked terrified.
"Stay here." I said quietly. They nodded and nudged closer to each other. I gave them a fake smile and left the room. I was in the hall when I heard the loud gun shot again.
"Gray!" I screamed. I ran up the stairs quickly and turned to Tyde's room.
I stopped right at the door frame and covered my mouth in shock. Tears were stinging my eyes as I saw Gray on the floor holding his mom in his arms. She was dead.
And so was Tyde.
