I woke up the next morning to the smell of flowers. I got dressed and walked out of the room to see Alice arranging some flowers in a vase. She was wearing dark tight jeans with a straped beige dress on top that had a dark beige belt with a sliver strap along with her silver locket.
I tried for hours last night but I couldn't remember turning Alice. It was as if the memory had simply disappeared. Alice was concentrating hard but looked up when she noticed me. Her face brightened and a smiled spread across her face.
"Good morning Klaus!" She sounded so happy. "Morning love." I said smiling back at her. I noticed that she had a few papers on her table. "What's all that love?" I asked picking up a few of the loose papers curiously. "Mail mostly but I also thought I should show you around New Orleans." She said finishing the arrangment. I smiled at her and nodded.
"Well I lived here about three hundred years ago but I'd love to see the new New Orleans..." I said which made her laugh. "You mean the modern New Orleans. Man how old are you? You're like ancient." She teased which made me smile.
She swiftly made some tea as I looked through brochures trying to decide where to start even though I knew the city better than anyone. I watched as Alice gracefully moved and as she hummed an unknown tune. She was so beautiful. I noticed she hadn't used magic yet and seemed to be uncomfortable using it unless in danger. So she's independent. "You know Nik, if you take a picture it lasts longer." I gave her a startled glance as I turned away having been caught staring at Alice. "I can't decide love. You pick."
She pulled a cream woolen cardigan around her and we left her apartment. We walked around town and she showed me land marks. I smiled and listened but I couldn't seem to stop staring at her kind eyes or her full lips. She was so different than anyone I had ever met. She didnt judge me based on what I'd done but on who I am today. Then again she has no idea what I've done. She didnt care that I turned her but she was happy to be alive. She reminded me of my little sister Rebeka in some ways like the way she dressed but at the same time her blunt attitude and kind heart reminded me of Elijah.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when someone tripped her. "Oi mate! Watch where you're going!" I said angrily. He glared at me and kept walking. Alice stood up and dusted herself off. " Are you alright love?" She nodded and sighed. "It's normal. People hate me both witches and vampires because I'm different. I'm not a witch or a vampire...I'm both. Not to mention the fact that I can use magic as a vampire which is unheard of," She said sighing.
I nodded. "I understand what you mean. I was treated just like you because I'm a hybrid." She smiled fondly and nodded. I could see a slight look of pain in her eyes as if she hid something behind her kind smile. She just like me endured the persecution of others yet seemed to find pleasure in the small moments. She smiled fondly as we walked under an archway into the cemetary where she walked over to her brother's grave and brushed away dirt that clung to the tomb stone.
It did puzzle me how she was able to use magic even though she was a vampire however I didn't want to push her. We walked on until she grew tired. We stopped and she drank a blood bag she carried with her. I was surprised by her calm ease in New Orleans while feeding as if it was a part of the culture its self.
As we started to pass a beautiful clothing store the ground started to tremble and people started to run around. Suddenly the statue from above us fell. I tackled Alice throwing her to the side. We rolled off to the side avoiding any form of danger. I wrapped my arms around her and closed my eyes. When the trembling stopped I opened my eyes and realized that Alice was completely calm. "This has happened before." She nodded. "The witches continue to try and banish us as in vampires from this world." She said sadness in her voice.
Her own family wanted her dead. I can relate to that. My father to this day tries to kill me and anyone I am close to in order to destroy a mistake, a beast which never should've been born.
There was a long silence before I realized how close I was to her. I pulled her to her feet and she quickly dusted herself off. She froze slightly as she looked up. I turned to see Marcel and two of his lackies staring at Alice almost vengfully. "Klaus! Why don't we show you around town?" He asked. "I've been shown around town already but thanks for the offer mate." I said sensing that something was wrong. Alice gripped my hand tightly. Once again images flashed before my eyes. No not now. I closed my eyes and watched at the shocking scene that played out before me.
Alice was standing her back to the wall facing me. I stared at her in her white night gown with her curly hair falling at her shoulders. I pressed her against the wall kissing her passionately and gripping her hips. My lips moved to her neck kissing and nibbling. My hand found hers and she squeezed my hand tightly. Her legs wrapped around my waist and her body started to become hot and bothered. I pushed the straps of her night gown off and nuzzled her neck. "Niklaus!"
I was pulled back to reality when Marcel spoke. "Can I at least buy you a drink?" He asked. "Of course mate. Let me just drop Alice home." I said pulling Alice towards her building. "No my boys can take her just fine." He growled. "Alright but boys," They turned to look at me. "Anything happens to this lovely young women I will hunt and kill not just you but your families as well." They shivered and nodded. "Um I'll see you later Klaus." She said and quickly walked away. She saw it too.
Her fear clung to the air for a few moments as I watched her walk away. This unsettling feeling tugged at my heart strings as I tried to clear my head. That vision. What does it mean? When did it happen?
I followed Marcel to the bar. "So you and Alice?" He asked ordering us brandy but grabbing the bottle at the last minute to keep next to him. I shook my head. "It's not like that. I turned her." Marcel gave me a look. "Yes I do like her." Marcel laughed. "Yeah well. She's a lost cause." I shook my head. "No she's beautiful and quite warm. She's different and kind." Marcel glared at me. I guess I have the affection he always wanted but never had.
